Parents’ Unusual Setup Forces Matthew Tkachuk and Brother Brady Rivalry to Continue

There’s just something about sibling rivalry that beats any other kind of rivalry, don’t you think? This also goes for Matthew Tkachuk and his brother Brady. It could be about the NHL or just trying to be the favorite kid at home! Recently, there was a peek into that rivalry on NHL’s official X post, featuring the Tkachuk brothers’ parents, Keith Tkachuk and Chantal Oster. The parents shared how their home setup shows the fun, friendly competition between their sons.

Chantal shared that their living room has three televisions mounted side-by-side. They made this design choice so they could watch both of their sons’ games at the same time. At first, she was a bit unsure, worried it might not look great, but Keith was passionate it was needed since Matthew and Brady’s games clash so often.

Keith also brought a fun spin to their viewing tradition, saying, “If I can get a chance to watch them, I’m going to watch them, watch them both at the same time. But the guy who’s playing the better that game gets the middle TV, the bigger one.”

The son who does better on any night gets to shine by being shown on the big center TV. The fun rivalry between the brothers isn’t just happening on the ice; it’s also playfully encouraged at home. Keith really values watching both games at the same time, but he joked that he and Chantal usually find themselves in separate rooms by the end of the night, based on how intense the games get and how they each react.

Hockey moms are the absolute best, just ask Matthew and Brady Tkachuk.

Chantal shared that Keith sometimes likes to watch by himself because she can get a bit too excited during the intense parts. Besides their sibling rivalry, the two brothers have a strong connection that really showed after the Ottawa Senators were eliminated from the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Matthew Tkachuk received valuable data from his brother

After the Ottawa Senators, led by Brady Tkachuk, got eliminated in the first round of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs, he shared his feelings, saying, “I’ll definitely watch him and wish him all the best, but I think just take this time to regroup, reset and just kind of reflect on everything that’s happened this past year.” Even though he lost the game and gave it his all, Brady still wanted to cheer on his brother, Matthew Tkachuk, in the next round.

Yeah, they ended up losing their series to the Toronto Maple Leafs, who eventually geared up to take on the Florida Panthers in Round 2. So, if the Senators had managed to knock out the Maple Leafs, Brady would have had the chance to go head-to-head with his brother in the playoffs. After Brady faced off against the Maple Leafs, he passed on some important info to his brother.

So, Jesse Blake shared on X that “Matthew Tkachuk says he got intel from Brady on the Leafs but didn’t elaborate.” This really shows how close the Tkachuk brothers are. Passing those details to Matthew is going to be a big help for the Panthers forward. Matthew was hesitant to share those details because they could give the Panthers a crucial advantage over the Maple Leafs.
