Terence Crawford Warns Canelo Alvarez of Meeting Painful Fate With One Move

For years, boxing fans dreamed of a potential matchup between Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez. Finally, that dream has become a reality. Although the fight had initially been delayed and even canceled for a few hours, the fight was swiftly put back on track by Saudi Arabian boxing figurehead, His Excellency Turki Alalshikh.

In a major turn of events, the Guadalajara native immediately signed a four-fight deal, spanning May 2025 to October 2026. And of course, it includes the mega showdown with Terence Crawford in September 2025 in Las Vegas. In a recent update, the unified super middleweight champion agreed to fight the IBF champion William Scull for the undisputed championship on May 3, in Riyadh. Both the fighters are putting their belts on the line for what looks like a tune-up before the big showdown with Terence Crawford in September. So with a fight against the 23-0 boxer ahead, Terence Crawford decided to send a message to his rival.

Terence Crawford looking forward to making history

With a win over Scull, Canelo will become an undisputed super middleweight champion for the second time. And this opens the road for Bud Crawford to challenge Canelo for his undisputed titles in September. This is exactly what Terence Crawford is eagerly looking to do. Crawford’s message to Canelo was brief but powerful: “Good luck @Canelo in your next fight. I’m looking forward to becoming a 3X Undisputed Champion.” If Bud wins the fight against the 62-2 boxer, he will become the only male boxer in history to have undisputed titles in three weight classes, a task that is more difficult than it looks.

But for that to happen, Canelo Alvarez has to ensure a seamless win over the Cuban-German champion. For those who may not know, William Scull has been undefeated since he turned pro in 2016. He started off with a knockout victory over Gaston Dario Avalos. And it was just last year when he was handed the IBF Super Middleweight title and then successfully went on to defend it with a unanimous decision victory over the Russian boxer, Vladimir Shishkin.

Therefore it seems, despite being a tune-up, Canelo has a big task ahead of him with Scull. Once that is done, it is onto the fight at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. So who holds the upper hand between Crawford and Canelo? And is there a way to determine who wins in September?

Both fighters bring an impressive resume to the table, and their skills are undeniable. The matchup is extremely intriguing, and fans are already divided.

Boxing world divided on Bud Crawford vs. Canelo Alvarez

Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson believes ‘Bud’ Crawford might be biting off more than he can chew by moving up to face Canelo. In the ‘It Is What It Is’ podcast, Tyson stated, “I don’t like that fight… too much weight (for Crawford).” Why? Tyson recalled Crawford’s tough battle with Israil Madrimov, where size and awkwardness seemed to be a hurdle. Tyson feared that moving up in weight would be too much for Crawford to handle.

Similarly, boxing commentator ShowBizz The Adult was initially skeptical of Crawford’s chances. He pointed out that Crawford tends to get hit more often than a fighter like Floyd Mayweather, who had previously defeated Canelo Alvarez. However, ShowBizz recently shifted his perspective. He now believes that Crawford has a legitimate shot at victory. He continued, “Canelo Alvarez isn’t effective and he gets tired when he’s boxing going backward.” The reason behind his conclusion? The fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Dmitry Bivol. According to ShowBizz The Adult, Crawford can exploit this particular weakness by using a smart game plan, particularly with his body jab.

If Crawford can get Canelo Alvarez to back up and force him into uncomfortable positions, he might just have a chance to pull off the upset of a lifetime and become a 3X undisputed champion. What do you think? Will Crawford be able to overcome the weight difference and defeat Canelo?
