“Did I score?” – that’s all he could think about, not the fact that his ankle had just awkwardly twisted and he’s now been taken to the hospital. The New York Yankees had winning odds in their favor, but it wasn’t celebratory. It was all somber at T-Mobile Park when the Yankees’ promising third baseman Oswaldo Cabrera was brutally injured on his ankle.
In the ninth inning, he was attempting to score on a sacrifice fly by Aaron Judge. That’s when his left ankle was visibly twisted beneath him during the slide. Right that second, he hit the ground and the medical team rushed to take over. Soon, the ambulance was called and he was taken off the field.
Judge was interviewed by YES Network after the game and he opened up about Cabrera’s injury. Judge said, “He really wasn’t saying much down there. “ Then right before he got carted off, he called me over and just said, ‘Did I score?’” It was shocking that Cabrera couldn’t care any less about the pain; all that mattered to him was if he did well in the game.
The New York Yankees won over the Seattle Mariners by 11-5; however, what’s moving is Cabrera’s passion towards the game.
