What Happened to Rae Burrell? LA Sparks Star Carried Off the Court After Scary Injury vs Golden State Valkyries

If there’s one player who many believe could have a defining season in the LA Sparks this season, it’s Rae Burrell. She believed it herself, too. “I feel really good. I feel a lot comfortable with the system… I’m excited,” she had conveyed. But just as she looked for a splashing start, it never really came.

Game 1 of the season. Just 41 seconds in. And suddenly, Rae Burrell was on the floor, grabbing at her right knee. It was one of those moments where time just stops.

The LA Sparks forward, who was finally set to step into a bigger role this season, went down after an awkward closeout and had to be carried off the court—unable to put any weight on her leg.

The team later confirmed it was a right lower leg injury and that she would miss the rest of the game. But honestly, anyone watching could feel this was more than just a precaution. After being in and out of the lineup in her earlier seasons, this year was supposed to be different.

She had earned her spot, and you could feel the excitement building around her. Sparks fans were ready. She was ready. But then—boom. One possession. One unlucky moment. And now, we wait.
