Like a quarterback dreams of a perfect TD throw, a wide receiver also dreams of a gravity-defying TD catch. But even after 1000 catches or a decade-long career, that dream in most cases remains unfulfilled. But not for Odell Beckham Jr. His arrival in the NFL would always be remembered as one of the greatest rookie advent the league had ever seen. Playing just 12 games, Beckham Jr. caught 91 passes. However, the one that stood out was his one-handed TD catch against the Dallas Cowboys in 2014. Famed for “The Catch of the Year.” OBJ’s NFL career couldn’t have started any better. But now, almost a decade later, his career is stuck in a place where darkness is slowly creeping in.
OBJ’s 4-year Giants tenure saw him win his 3 Pro Bowls to date. All 3 of them were racked up in consecutive seasons. So, you can just imagine how big of an impact he had in his early years. However, little did anyone know that those were the best years OBJ would ever enjoy in the next few seasons. In his last two seasons in New York, he only managed to play 16 games. And once he left the Giants in 2018, the Browns became his new home.
He did impress in his first season in Cleveland, catching 74 passes for over 1,000 receiving yards. Though it wasn’t a Pro Bowl year for him, it looked like OBJ was turning around his career. But in the following season, OBJ ruptured his ACL. His 2020 campaign ended prematurely after just 7 games. Once the 2021 season came around, OBJ was expected to mount a strong return. However, the Browns chose to release him, and just like that, he ended up in LA.
In 2021, after signing with the Rams in a one-year deal. He may have won a Super Bowl, but with jubilation came heartbreak. On the night of the Super Bowl, OBJ ruptured his ACL for the second time. This led him to miss the entire 2022 season. And with that, his LA chapter ended. Baltimore was a short stop before an underwhelming season in Miami. Now, after his release from the Dolphins, OBJ has yet to find a club. So, with his NFL future in jeopardy, OBJ gave a quick update on his life.
On Friday, he shared a couple of snaps with Patrick Mahomes as they were captured at an Inter Miami game. OBJ wrote on his caption, “Where I’m at in my life..Hmmm…I’m really doin what makes my SOUL happy. We all got different paths but on the same journey, n that’s to find true happiness in this lifetime, whatever that may be for u. F—- the b——– and everythin else in between …Love on the ones who love u while we still here …The Code.” OBJ seems to have found happiness where he is in his life. And Mahomes also send him some strength by putting a few muscle emojis in his comments.
Well, a bit of a reassuring gesture from the face of the NFL is probably what OBJ needs right now. Maybe it could give him the strength and determination to turn around the dark chapter in his career. But while he does it, you can’t just expect him to sit quietly.
Odell Beckham Jr. stirs the football community in a flashy claim
OBJ might still be a free agent, but when it comes to standing up to his name, he doesn’t miss a chance. Being aware of the impact he had on the footwear industry and culture. OBJ took credit for something he thinks originated with him. As per ComplexSneakers’ Instagram Post, OBJ boldly claims he “Invented the cleat game. Let’s be honest.” While his claim could seem audacious, there weren’t a lot of fans who disagreed. One of them commented, “He got fined for wearing custom cleats. No lies detected.” Back in 2016, OBJ was slapped with an $18K fine after he wore custom-made Craig Sager cleats.

Then another fan said, “People had custom cleats before this, but he stapled himself into a different league with the kicks.” Remember Super Bowl LVI? OBJ wore custom-made cleats that were priced at $200,000. Those were supposedly the most expensive an NFL player had ever worn for the big game. Well, there was another fan who chimed in with similar thoughts. “He ain’t start it, but he without question got it popping.”
Popular entities like Cam Newton and Chad Ochocinco also wore custom cleats before Odell Beckham Jr. But he was the one who took the game to the next level. So, his claiming to have invented the cleat game had a lot of truth in it. As he navigates through a tough time in his career, we hope OBJ can get back on the gridiron again soon. And show off his next new pair of custom cleats to us.
