The football world lives for electric brother duos, and the Concepcion brothers just might be the next big story. We’ve witnessed dynasties like the Mannings, Kelces, and Sanders brothers dominate the game—and now KC and his younger brother are following in their footsteps. Kevin Concepcion exploded onto the scene in 2023 with the Wolfpack, racking up 64 catches for 767 yards and 10 touchdowns, smashing NC State freshman records for receptions and receiving yards. He then transferred to the Aggies, chasing bigger fish. Seems like neither brother settles for anything less than the best. So, the former Kansas State commit followed suit, switching his commitment with four years of eligibility left. But he isn’t the one running behind big conferences….
Well, Texas A&M’s 1655-yard offensive weapon made a big name playing for the Wolfpack, but his brother Arrion Concepcion didn’t fall for it. Despite verbally making amends with them back in June, he went on searching for better options and committed to Kansas State. But it looks like even they couldn’t keep this 3-star WR hooked up for a long time, as he made his move to James Madison. CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz hit X with this update, saying, “Ex-Kansas State wide receiver signee Arrion Concepcion has committed to James Madison.”

Now, the interesting thing is that Mike Elko and his staff were eyeing Arrion Concepcion, and he even made a visit to them. And he already had a known face there with KC Concepcion’s presence, but still, he chose to play for JMU. It looks like Arrion Concepcion isn’t just following in his brother’s footsteps; he’s forging his own path. This natural pass-catcher boasts elite short-area quickness and dazzling elusiveness, transforming ordinary plays into spectacular highlights. Defenders struggle to contain him in the open field; he often slips past them with ease.
He’s a one-man highlight reel, leaving defenses guessing and coaches perplexed. Fearless and tough beyond his size, Concepcion excels. In 2023, he caught 51 passes for 640 yards and 9 touchdowns, leading Chambers to the North Carolina 4A playoffs’ second round. He consistently wins deep, fights through contact, and performs under pressure—a reliable receiver who keeps drives alive and the scoreboard moving.
Now, Arrion Concepcion becomes a key addition to JMU’s 10th-ranked 2025 class, which is pretty stacked with 17 commits. The team already has WR Michael Scott, Jamarcus Smith, Jaylan Sanchez, and Isaiah Alston on their team. It will be interesting to see how Arrion makes his presence felt on the team, which is already filled with top talent. And believe it or not, Bob Chesney is building something special with the Dukes this season.
Bob Chesney’s vision for the James Madison Dukes’ success
James Madison enjoyed a calm winter transfer portal, but spring saw a surge; 19 players left the program. But Coach Bob Chesney isn’t letting this deter him. He relies heavily on lower-level transfers, even basing his seasons on them.
This offseason, JMU aggressively used the portal, prioritizing proven production over potential, reloading after losing stars like Eric O’Neill (Rutgers) and Yamir Knight (SMU) to Power Five schools. Of 32 new additions (and counting), 23 transferred from D3, D2, or FCS programs; only four came from Power Five schools. Chesney didn’t seek flashy prospects but players with proven success, regardless of division.
So, who are the big playmakers for this season?
JMU’s quarterback situation features two former FCS starters, Matthew Sluka (Holy Cross/UNLV) and Camden Coleman (Richmond), while Alonza Barnett recovers from a significant knee injury. Sluka, a Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year who thrived under JMU’s offensive coordinator Dean Kennedy, gives the Dukes a strong option.
Defensively, JMU significantly upgraded their depth at all levels. Xavier Holmes (Maine), Turner Schmidt (Robert Morris), William Robinson (Holy Cross), and Andrew Taddeo (Colgate) bolster the line. Linebacker additions include D2 standout JT Koumane-Yao and Drew Spinogatti (Holy Cross), who recorded 71 tackles last season.
Learning from 2024’s experience with high-profile Power 4 transfers like Nakai Poole (Mississippi State) and Dylan Morris (Washington), who didn’t succeed, while FCS players like Jacob Dobbs and Eric O’Neill became stars. Now, let’s wait and see if the same happens in Arrion Concepcion’s case or not.
