“I ain’t gonna lie. We’re going to have to worry about (Dallas), for sure….I do like the trade….It’s going to be exciting to watch. Because all that does is bring the best out of us. So, if we know how they coming, we are going to have to step it up,” Philadelphia Eagles receiver A.J. Brown said for the George Pickens trade. This tells that ever since the Dallas Cowboys sent a third and fifth-round pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers for the wide receiver, the league and the internet haven’t stopped talking.
George Pickens is that guy who has size, speed, crazy athleticism, and a knack for showing up in big moments. Last season, he ran go routes and deep fades nearly 20% of the time, top 10 in the league. So yeah, he’s different. That’s one of the reasons why Jerry Jones made the move. But what was Jones’ first reaction after pulling off the trade? According to Dak Prescott, it was something worth hearing.
On Tuesday, Dak Prescott revealed he received the news of George Pickens’ trade from Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ voicemail. While speaking to the reporters, he recalled the moment when he found out the news. He said, “Yeah, pretty funny, I guess. I was actually away from my phone for a couple of hours and go back to like six missed calls from Jerry’s assistant. Had no idea, literally no idea what it could have been about.” So, the QB realized he actually got a voicemail from Jones, wherein the owner said a 6-word message along with a couple of words of excitement. “’Hey, I got some good news I wanna share with you!’”

Dak Prescott laughed, as he further continued, “So I called him back and he was excited, and he was just telling me that it happened, that it’d be released either later that night or in the next morning. And yeah, just a lot of excitement from both of us.” After three seasons in Pittsburgh, the Cowboys grabbed George Pickens in a trade that sent a 2026 third-round and a 2027 fifth-round pick to the Steelers. In return, Dallas got Pickens and a future sixth-rounder. Now, he’s expected to line up right behind CeeDee Lamb, giving Dak Prescott the kind of help he’s needed for a while.
And the QB knows this very well. That’s the reason in an interview he mentioned, “I know that we need some help in that position. I know CeeDee needs some help, and I think when you have a guy like that, I heard George say it, it’s hard to double team two guys.”
Pickens had 900 yards and three touchdowns last season, and the year before, he crossed the 1,000-yard mark with ease. The guy’s got that edge that just can’t be coached. And for a Cowboys team coming off a disappointing 7-10 season, this could be the jolt they’ve been waiting for. You can already feel the energy shifting. But not only were Jerry Jones and Dak Prescott happy to have him. Even George Pickens feels the same about his new company.
George Pickens is happy despite being the No. 2 receiver?
Christmas might be months away, but in Dallas, it already feels like the holiday came early for Jerry Jones, Dak Prescott, and George Pickens. When speaking during the team’s OTAs, Pickens sounded fired up in his first real moment as a Cowboy. When reporters asked him about meeting Jerry Jones, he lit up, saying it felt like getting a Christmas present. That kind of energy says it all. Pickens is embracing this new chapter in Dallas, and it shows. He loves the vibe, the confidence in the locker room, and most of all, he’s ready to build something special with Dak Prescott.
For him, it’s not about being the No. 1 guy or the No. 2. It’s about showing up, making plays, and feeding off each other. That’s what he’s here to do. For him, having two number-one caliber receivers on the field at the same time isn’t an issue. Pickens said, “You guys making a 1A and 1B and all this, honestly, that’s the first time I’ve heard of any of that stuff. I feel like two receivers are kind of normal. When I used to watch football, there was always a good receiver, and then there was another good receiver on the side of him. I just feel like we’re going to work off each other very well.” Now, he’s part of one.
With CeeDee Lamb on one side and George Pickens on the other, defenses are going to have a problem. And with Dak Prescott trusting the depth behind them, names like Jake Ferguson, Jalen Tolbert, and Jonathan Mingo will only make things tougher to stop. It all kicks off September 4th against the Eagles. Are you excited?
