Sepp Straka Tips For Amateurs: Exclusive Insights From a 4-Time PGA Tour Winner

In the 2025 season, three golfers have won two or more titles. But away from the most vouched players, there is one name that has stood out: the Austrian professional, Sepp Straka. When the golf world celebrated Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy‘s wins, Sepp Straka was building on his form with two of the most crucial wins for his 2025 season. The $8.8M American Express and the $20M signature event, the Truist Championship. These two wins led to a significant increase ($5.1 million) in his bank balance. To get insights for our readers, EssentiallySports invited Sepp Straka for an ES Exclusive chat.

In a candid conversation with Andrew Whitelaw of ES, Straka talked about the ever-evolving world of golf, the rise of European golfers on the global stage, the unique dynamics between the LPGA and PGA Tours, the current state of the game, and also reflected on the growing competitiveness across all levels of professional golf. The 4x Tour winner also shared the key tips for weekend golfers to improve their game and get the best results.

Sepp Straka’s tips for the EssentiallyGolf readers

When asked by Whitlaw, “What’s your go-to tip for our EssentiallyGolf readers on driving the ball straighter?” He shared that “straightness is the key.” Hitting the ball straight and keeping it in the fairway will help in staying under par. Straka shared, “I think focusing on straightness is the key. Trying to hit it straight is high, you know; you hear a lot about guys trying to chase distance. Yeah, that’s all fun and good, but generally for weekend golfers, just getting the ball into the fairway is huge.”

Have a predictable eye

Achieving a fairway with each hit requires the golfer to stay consistent while achieving the predicted trajectory with the ball. But to reach a longer distance, the impact changes, the flow breaks, and many other aspects of the swing get hindered. So, avoiding that, Straka has suggested having a predictable eye. Address all the factors that could affect the trajectory and aim for a position of landing that can be ideally achieved without straining on the swing. Irrespective of the factors, be it wind or obstacles, when that is considered, golfers are halfway through in achieving the ideal trajectory.

After the consideration comes the understanding of one’s own swing and flow of hitting. For example, if you are a naturally right-hitting golfer, then by considering the factor, adjust the swing and angle to have it relatively straight.

Smooth swing

The next tip, which Straka insisted on, was to have a smooth swing. For ball hitting, it is the swing that plays the crucial role. However, to reach longer distances, one takes riskier shots to reach greens. However, Straka says that keeping the swing smooth without considering the distance will result in the accuracy that could lead to lower scores. Light grips, a full shoulder turn, and a balanced stance are what help in improving the motion.

However, what is important is to consider distance as secondary and accuracy as primary. Use the natural tempo of the body to hit the ball in the desired trajectory.

With the two crucial tips on hitting the ball straight, Straka has laid out his secret exclusively for EssentiallySports. Now, the budding golfers or weekend golfers can easily choose to improve their game with the key points on having stats like Straka. Currently, on the PGA Tour, the Austrian is leading in Green in Regulation with 72%.
