Mike Tyson Marks Memorial Day With Low Key Personal Moment

“I’m just fighting to take care of my bills, basically… I’m more conscious of my children and those guys looking at my appearance… I’m not going to fight again. I am not going to disrespect the sport anymore by losing to this caliber of fighters,” a disheartened Mike Tyson told ESPN’s Jim Gray in 2005, following a painful loss to Kevin McBride. At 38, it seemed the former heavyweight king had finally closed the book on his storied, yet turbulent, career. But nearly two decades later, Tyson stepped back into the spotlight. Though he didn’t walk away with a win, he walked away with a staggering $20 million payday. And that’s exactly why, as Mike Tyson approaches his 59th birthday in June, he hasn’t ruled out another return to the ring in the near future.

In a recent interview with Bleacher Report, Mike Tyson kept the door open, saying, “everything is possible,” and even hinted he might fight again if someone were to break one of his records. And he wasn’t lying. According to Kazinform, via Sportnews.kz, organizers in Kazakhstan are reportedly working to bring Tyson back into the ring. This time against the Russian former professional MMA artist Fedor Emelianenko.

“We are planning a bout between Mike Tyson and Fedor Emelianenko. Work in this direction is already underway. The tournament, where we want to invite Mike Tyson, is scheduled for December,” said Alimzhan Bektaev, president of the Alash Pride League, during a press conference in Astana. The event is tentatively scheduled for December and, if confirmed, would mark another surreal chapter in the ever-unpredictable saga of Iron Mike. However, for now, though, The Baddest Man on the Planet is keeping himself busy with his business ventures and outings. And what did he do?

This Memorial Day weekend, Mike Tyson shared a glimpse of his off-the-ring life on Instagram. Posting a photo of himself in a baby pink polo shirt, white Bermuda shorts, and crisp white sneakers, Tyson posed alongside the team at Factoría de Azúcar, which he visited over the holiday. “Had the best food from @factoriadazucar this Memorial Day weekend,” he captioned the post. The restaurant was equally excited, writing, “Today at Factoría de Azúcar, we’re thrilled to welcome the greatest boxing legend Our entire team is beyond excited and honored to have you here. Thank you for the visit, champ!” But Mike Tyson’s weekend tour didn’t stop there.

He was also spotted at MV Ristorante, catching up with owner Michael Vitiello. It marked his first return to Bernardsville in years, a nostalgic moment for the former heavyweight champion who once called the area home. Perhaps the most meaningful moment of Tyson’s recent run came with the launch of his latest initiative.

The Transformational Technologies Academy, a school that aims to empower underserved youth in Arizona, is a mission Tyson says is now at the core of his legacy. And fittingly, over the Memorial Day weekend, Mike Tyson made a personal announcement.
