Aaron Boone Addresses Yankees Star’s Interesting Stance on Trash Talk in MLB After Red Sox Rookie’s Viral Diss

After spending a month on the sidelines, the Yankees’ star is finally back, and he is already turning heads, not just with his on-field performances but with his off-field comments, too. Ahead of the series finale against the Sox on Sunday, he turned the age-old rivalry a notch further up. No prizes for guessing who we are talking about here!

It’s Jazz Chisholm Jr, yep. But how has he intensified the Yanks-Sox rivalry even further?

Well, Sox’s rookie Hunter Dobbins has been topping the headlines recently for a brutal comment he made about the Yankees. The right-hander told the Boston Herald that he’d “retire” if the Yankees were the last team to offer him a contract.

Now, Chisholm was never going to let a rookie trash-talk without a response. “I think there should be more trash talk in baseball!!! Anyone agrees!? Anyway, free smoke at 7,” he wrote on X. And, his interesting stance didn’t go unnoticed by the Yankees manager Aaron Boone.

Boone was asked if he also wants more trash-talk in baseball. And he answered, “I’m not craving more trash talk.” The manager perhaps wants to steer clear of it as he knows it often relies on exaggeration just to stir a reaction. But he doesn’t mind it either.

“I’ve gotten my fill from these college regionals and some of the nonsense that I see going on, like, what are we doing? No, I’m not craving that, but it doesn’t bother me, either,” Boone further added.

As long as it doesn’t cross a line, Boone doesn’t seem completely opposed to players showing some edge. It’s the sort of banter that can drive players like Chisholm, who is freshly back in the mix, and is looking to make a mark.

With Dobbins triggering the heat and Chisholm clapping back, it already gave us an idea of how fiery the final matchup was going to be. But who came out trumps?

Yankees’ Chisholm fired back, but Sox’s Dobbins got the win

Finally, after all the talk and tension leading into Sunday night’s Red Sox-Yankees matchup, Chisholm and Dobbins’s face-off was as intense as it was supposed to be. However, at the end of the day, it was Dobbins who got the last word and the win too.

Remember his remark? That he’d rather ‘retire’ than play for the New York Yankees. He backed his words with his performance, dominating and proving why he belongs to Boston. Dobbins kept his calm on the mound and allowed three runs and four hits across 5 innings. He didn’t record any strikeout or walks. But still managed to walk off with the win.

While Dobbins did well, the Red Sox backed him up even better. It was all in Boston’s favor this time. Carlos Narvaez, who was traded from the brine to the Red Sox back in December, slammed a three-run homer off Carlos Rodon.

Meanwhile, the Yankees were falling apart. Especially on the pitching side. Rodón and the bullpen couldn’t control it, and the Red Sox made the most of it.

When it comes to Jazz Chisholm Jr., he reacted to Dobbins’ diss with equal intensity, delivering a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. He tried to give the Yankees a much-needed lead, but the team as a whole couldn’t keep up this time.

Stacking up two games out of three, the Red Sox scored 11 runs on Sunday night and 27 total over this series. The Yankees wanted to silence Dobbins but couldn’t match up the intensity.

To go by Yankees captain Aaron Judge’s words, “it’s just a series.” But didn’t it feel like something bigger?
