The general opinion among the Clark fandom is that Nike is fumbling the ball when it comes to Caitlin Clark. Nike appears to be directing much of its current marketing and product focus toward A’ja Wilson and her high-profile signature shoe line, a move that has sparked frustration among Caitlin Clark’s fan base.
Despite signing Clark to a major endorsement deal, the brand has yet to roll out her signature shoe or personal logo, leaving many to feel that she is being overlooked. This delay has stirred growing discontent, especially considering Clark’s unprecedented popularity, record-breaking viewership, and commercial appeal. As arguably the most marketable athlete in the WNBA today, fans believe she should be at the forefront of Nike’s women’s basketball campaign, not waiting on the sidelines.
The distaste has been building among the fans, one of them has gone as far as to create a fan-made Nike poster which has a wooden boat in the shape of a Nike Logo and Caitlin Clark with a basketball riding a storm. The tagline of this tribute is “A rising tide lifts all boats.” This fan-made poster has gone viral on social media and reached Barstool Sports founder and Indiana Fever superfan Dave Portnoy, who reacted with just three words: “This is awesome.”
