Amid Special Treatment Accusations, Rickie Fowler Confirms PGA Tour Move To Rescue His Career

“Play better than last year,” is what Rickie Fowler said before beginning his 2025 schedule. It was a rough ride last season, with Fowler’s only top-5 finish coming at the wire in the ZOZO Championship. Despite that, his best finishes were T18 and T20 at the RBC Heritage and Travelers Championship. Even though he planned to play better, the current performance recorded till now hasn’t seen a major change. Out of the three events he participated in, the best finish recorded was at the American Express, i.e., T21.

Rickie Fowler’s slump has taken a toll on his OWGR. After climbing to 23rd in 2023, a rough 2024 knocked him down to 74th, and he’s now sitting at 91st. With his form dipping, his spot in the majors is on shaky ground. He has got to flip the tables. For now, Fowler mapped out his next few events on @Rickie_Tracker but is waiting on his results to finalize his schedule.

The post shared, “ #COMMITTED — Rickie Fowler has committed to the Cognizant Classic. Upcoming schedule.” Fowler won the Cognizant Classic back in 2017 and now with the concerning performance, he will be aiming to repeat that feat. Sharing further in the post, the schedule included the ongoing Genesis Invitational, following which Fowler will take a week off and not feature in the Mexico Championship. After that, he will be featuring Cognizant Classic, Arnold Palmer Invitational, and The Players.

It continued with, “After that, it’ll just depend on where he stands in regards to qualifying for Augusta. I think he plays Valero regardless… but he could potentially at Houston to the schedule. Something to watch for!” For now, his ranking participation at the signature events is a sign of worry. Even with the Genesis Invitational, sponsor exemption helped him get through the roster for the signature event.

However, his performance in the past hasn’t been impressive, but with the worry of participation ahead in the schedule, this year could be the one for Fowler to erase the bad memories and start fresh with victory.

The $20 million event hosted by the G.O.A.T., Tiger Woods, will be teeing off at the Torrey Pines. After the wildfire in Los Angeles, the event was forced to move from Riviera. With a different course this year, Fowler will be aiming for a better result to move up on the rankings and secure qualification for the majors.

Until now, the 6-time PGA Tour winner has featured in four editions of the event. Out of the four, he recorded 20th position finishes twice (2022 and 2023), which is the best. Fowler took part for the first time in 2021, where he finished with an under-par 3 score with rounds of 70-71-73-67. After the great ties, the golf world had high hopes for the golfer, but it went on the opposite track as he recorded 71-71-69-71 to finish in the 55th position.

However, the redemption year in 2023 helped him get back from 103 rank to 23. He was able to match his best finish at the event as well. His 20th-position finish could have been better if the second round followed the same score as the other three. After he recorded 68 in the first, the second round with 75 affected his rank, which he wasn’t able to recover even with his 69 and 67 in the final two rounds. Even his last year’s performance couldn’t offer any better as he was 35th in the standings with his 70-69-71-71 rounds score.

As his ranking freefalls, will Fowler’s upcoming events be his shot at redemption? What are your thoughts on it? Share with us in the comments below.
