Tiger Woods is always deemed as the GOAT of the golf world. An athlete known for his humility and reserved persona. But there are moments where he does let his humorous side slip out. One instance would be during the 2019 Hero World Challenge, when Woods was paired with Justin Thomas and an incident happened that left the golf community to ROFL.
Tiger, while introducing his fellow golfer before the first tee shot at the event, started off by complimenting JT’s significant achievements. However, Tiger took an opportunity to take a jab at Thomas by bringing out an old moniker of the golfer, “Kentucky’s ‘Mr. Golf’ in 2009.” Justin hearing that, momentarily halted his swing practice as a roar of laughter was heard from the crowd. This was just a glimpse of the humorous side of Woods.
Fast forward to 2025, we all know how Tiger Woods, during his first match at TGL, was left laughing in tears due to his fellow teammate — Kevin Kisner’s shot from the bunker. The whole incident coupled with Woods’s reaction was a sight to behold.
In fact, in the recent podcast episode of Foreplay, “Kevin Kisner Returns”, Kevin Kisner joined as a guest and shared how Woods not only stopped with a good old hearty laugh but also never stopped trolling Kisner throughout the night. The hosts had initially asked Kisner for some insights on the Jupiter Links team, specifically the chemistry within the team. The question was, “What’s the communication like? You guys have an active group text going?”
To which Kisner replied that they indeed have their group chat. “Well, Tiger is not the best communicator in the world,” said Kisner as the 15-time major champion is not too well-versed in technology, which means he is rarely active in such online banter. However, he does get help from time to time from his best friend, Rob McNamara.
Interestingly, despite the unfamiliarity with technology, Kisner further went on to share about the instance that left the team Jupiter Links laughing the entire night. Not surprisingly, after their first match Kisner was the subject of talk for the entire night. He shared that, “Our text thread after the first match was on fire. Tiger just could not get over how funny that bunker shot was and literally texted about it all night long.” Being someone who is not tech-savvy, Tiger did not let that stop him from getting amused repeatedly by poking at Kisner. As per what Kisner shared, Woods was actively texting in the group, while Max Homa, who is actually tech-savvy kept replying with memes and GIFs to Tiger’s messages which made the conversation funnier by the minute.

While there is no doubt, Woods felt it was the funniest moment and enjoyed it. Fans and even the golf world witnessed the same joy. Even his teammate, along with the golf world, went on to praise the match.
Kevin Kisner’s shot remained a memorable incident despite the loss
The bunker shot of Kisner on debut left a laugh on every individual. Even Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala were seen laughing after that. But despite the tragic loss by a huge difference of 12-1, Jupiter Links’s Max Homa shared a post jokingly after the tragic loss on debut. He posted photos with the team and his wife, writing, “We got beat so bad they may kick us out the league but we definitely brought the most laughs.” Well definitely, the loss is not what is talked about, but it was the shot that was the show-stopper.
Even Kisner in the same podcast shared how Woods could not stop laughing. Kisner admitted, “I have never seen Tiger laugh at anything so hard like that.” Additionally, fans also started to share the same on social media interacting with the viral video of Kisner’s shot. One wrote, “This is the moment of the TGL so far.” Another wrote, “Crazy.”
For someone who is known more for his achievements, it was a pleasant sight for the fans to see the GOAT not taking things too seriously and having some fun. What did you think of Tiger’s reaction?
