Six-Year CFB QB With Injury History Surges Past Jalen Milroe as NFL Insider Drops Shocking Jaxson Dart Verdict

Woah! Things are getting hot before the NFL Draft. Well, it has to be. After all, the best of the quarterbacks are now all set to spread their wings and fly high in the NFL. While there are names that have gained a consistent seat in the NFL race like Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward, there are ones who are challenging the predominant ones.

We are talking about the Louisville Cardinals quarterback QB Tyler Shough. Yep, the same player whose back-to-back injury has been his biggest foe. Right now, Shough seems to give a neck-to-neck fight to Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart. And what about Alabama Jalen Milroe? Looks like he has lost all the charm and dropped a bit low while the underdog now reigns in the charts.

Todd McShay comes with a shocking leap in the rankings

The 2025 NFL Draft is knocking at the door. We are only two months away from the big day. The discussions have peaked. And guess what? It’s not only the big shots that are topping the charts. The focus now is on Shough. On his podcast, host Todd McShay explores a little about Shough’s chances to land as the first-round pick. Yes, the former Texas Tech and Oregon signal-caller has suffered significant injuries in each of the last three seasons. Well, if you have forgotten, McShay brushes up the memory about the QB who started his college football journey in 2018.

“At Texas Tech he’s the starter again. September 25th that year clavicle injury misses the rest of the season. Comes back, and earns the starting job again at Texas Tech. Six games into that year another broken clavicle and that’s 2022. Misses six games then. Final year, 2023 on September 23rd breaks his left fibula he’s out for the rest of that season,” McShay broke it down and that’s how his luck didn’t favor Shough at all. His play has been constantly invaded by pauses. But looks like things are turning for the better this season.

Shough comes into the NFL draft with a decent resume. He is 2nd all-time in yards per game passing (266.3) as well as 2nd all-time in touchdowns per game passing (1.92). This earned him enough recognition, McShay noted, “He’s been through the wars he’s been through the fight he’s been through and to see where he um to see like the resiliency the maturity.” So, in “Todd’s Top-10 QB” list, Shough holds the No.4 rank, just after Dart who is at No.3. And what about Milroe?

Well, Shough has moved past the Alabama QB who holds the No.5 rank. On that note, McShay came up with a shocking verdict. He stated, “Going off of last year’s tape – Dart versus last year’s tape – Shough, I don’t think there’s much of a difference between the two and I think an argument honest to God…Shough might be slightly better.” Woah! Now that’s indeed a big compliment. Looks like the Senior Bowl has been the turning point for Shough.

Tyler Shough comes off as poised, polished and primed

The Cardinals QB finished the last season with an 87.7 PFF grade. Now that is the second-best mark among this year’s group of Senior Bowl quarterbacks. On Day 1, the signal-caller carried his success to the field, he completed nine of his 13 passes with two big-time throws, grading at 87.9. Even on Day 2, he maintained his strength and consistency.

Shough delivered another big-time throw and finished with an 87.8 grade. With this, the Louisville QB capped off an impressive week with a 90.2 passing grade. Now, no one could deny that he looked more poised and comfortable as compared to his college days stints. So what’s likely to be the best fit for Shough among the NFL suitors? Turns out that the Pittsburgh Steelers are a good option.

After all, they are known for their ability to unearth hidden gems and have a history of turning underdogs into stars. You just name the players – Antonio Brown to Mike Webster, they did a great job in bolstering their talents. Plus, landing Tyler Shough comes with a bonus. The Cardinals quarterback brings maturity and a season as a starter under his belt. Now, it’s a heads up, Milroe and Dart — the underdogs are done barking; they’re coming to hunt.
