Jarren Duran Sends Honest Message to Frustrated Red Sox Fans Amid Trade Deadline Rumors

In 2024, Jarren Duran grew as a star: he was the All-Star MVP, made the All-MLB Second Team, and became a fan favorite. But 2025 is a different story. The Red Sox are losing, fans are frustrated, and Duran’s slump is like sprinkling salt on the wound. He is very much aware of these facts.

Looking at his numbers for this month tells the story behind why fans are frustrated. Duran has had a hard time hitting at the plate, hitting only .211 and striking out 28 times in 22 games. His average for the season is only .252, with a .708 OPS. Additionally, he walks only 5.2% of the time, which is lower than the league average of 8.8%. On top of that, he strikes out 43% of the time when facing left-handed pitchers.

In a candid conversation on the podcast Section 10, Duran shared his thoughts. When asked about his relationship with the fans, he said, “I think it’s pretty good.” But deep down, he knows there’s “a little bit of frustration. I think that’s just because of the way I am playing right now… I have shown them in 2023 and 2024 that I can do it.”

Those numbers back up what Duran admitted. He is also aware that, “Every time I go out there and sign, they always super proud… but in the back of my mind, I’m like —. I know I can —-ing do better… and at the end of the day, I get out of my own way.” It’s not common for a player to get right to the point—no excuses, no filters, just real responsibility. Of course, not all talk is about feelings. The trade deadline is coming up on July 31, which is a little over a month away, and Duran’s name is all over the projection boards.

ESPN placed him second on a list of 50 players most likely to be traded before the deadline and assigned him a 25% chance of being traded. The Red Sox are stuck in a logjam in the outfield and are trying to even out the roster, which is why that probability is so high. Duran’s route to playing time is anything but clear, especially with Ceddanne Rafaela, Wilyer Abreu, Roman Anthony, and Rob Refsnyder also in the mix.

Duran knows it, too. He acknowledged the same and said, “I’ll probably break down crying… but the more I feed that into my own brain, the more it’s gonna tear me up. So I just don’t really think about it.” The decision lies in the hands of the front office. And if things don’t go well, he might join his former teammate. Any guesses? It’s Rafael Devers!

Jarren Duran to Giants trade talk heats up

The Red Sox and Giants have set themselves up for another possible trade involving Jarren Duran after sending All-Star Rafael Devers to San Francisco. The Red Sox front office has already started trade talks with the Giants, having sent a key player to the Bay Area in a major trade. This sets a clear example.

If the Giants were to acquire Duran, a dynamic outfielder known for his impressive 2024 season and speed, he would Heliot Ramos, Jung Hoo Lee, and Mike Yastrzemski make a solid outfield. Adding Duran could boost the team’s offense and defense in Oracle Park.

In exchange, Boston would get three of San Francisco’s best prospects: left-handed pitcher Carson Whisenhunt (No. 2), infielder Rayner Arias (No. 7), and right-handed pitcher Carson Ragsdale (No. 21). These picks would help Boston’s farm system recover after the Devers trade and give them high-leverage pitchers and more depth in the infield to help with a hypothetical rebuild or retool.

The Giants would get a controllable playmaker who can help right away, and the Red Sox would get more of their best young players. This would be a textbook win-win. Given their successful trade, this is a logical next step for both teams to strike a balance between short-term and long-term goals.
