“We will be back,” Patrick Mahomes promised the Chiefsdom after the heartbreaking loss in Super Bowl LIX. He is not new to the grind, having won his first championship when he was just 24 years and 138 days old. Fast forward, after getting the dreams of a 3-peat shattered and the fall of the offense to the Eagles, he didn’t hesitate to take the responsibility. “I let y’all down today. I’ll always continue to work and try and learn and be better for it,” he wrote on his social media to assure his fans that he has begun putting in the work. With wild predictions and swirling rumors, Mahomes and his squad can’t afford to take their foot off the gas, especially after the prediction.
Apart from the team’s sincere efforts, the Chiefs‘ stars will need much more to claim the championship title this season. Now, after their loss to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Chiefs bounced back to add two more back-to-back titles. Despite the loss last season, the team had a 15-2 record! They know how to do it. But even before the game can kick off, former NFL player and analyst Emmanuel Acho seemingly predicts something otherwise, and it’s rather a disappointing one for the Chiefs, or more like a warning!
During a conversation on FS1’s The Facility, Acho expressed his skepticism about whether the Chiefs can win it again. He wondered whether it was a championship drought for the franchise. In addition, Acho recalled that the team suffered a drought for nearly 10 years before claiming their three championship wins, and questioned if they are circling back to that same period. He further expressed his doubts about why others haven’t mentioned it yet! “Has the drought begun for the Kansas City Chiefs and is everybody just afraid to say it because it’s sacrilegious to talk about Patrick Mahomes and it’s sacrilegious to talk about Andy Reid. Has the drought begun?” he said.

Does Acho’s explanation sound reasonable enough? Well, the analyst seemingly had a few more reasons for such a bold opinion. He explained how both the Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens have “better” and much more impressive rosters than the Chiefs. The Buffalo Bills didn’t go unnoticed in his eyes. He also mentioned the Los Angeles Chargers, who seemingly have taken long strides under head coach Jim Harbaugh.
But one would argue that Mahomes is still in his prime. He is indeed one of the most crucial parts of the team. There was concern earlier with Travis Kelce, who was weighing retirement. But the loss was so disheartening that it inspired him even more to return this time with more vigor than before. He even lost weight to be in his best shape to contribute to the team. However, the issues perhaps remained with the rest of the roster, which was at risk of losing several players due to free agency, and these players were instrumental in the Chiefs’ earlier wins. They did lose one! So, is the same tide back again?
DeAndre Hopkins’ bold comment might be concerning for Patrick Mahomes!
As Acho mentioned, the Ravens have a stunningly talented roster. What if a crucial piece from the Chiefs were to move to the Ravens? Yes, we are talking about DeAndre Hopkins, who joined the Ravens this offseason after his stint playing alongside Mahomes and the Chiefs. After his arrival, the 13-year veteran was asked about his opinion on the Chiefs’ rival team, which is his home now.
His response shocked many, as he went on to claim that he could be the missing piece for the team. “It seems like there’s been a piece that’s been missing. I could be that addition. I could not be that addition,” Hopkins told ESPN’s Jamison Hensley. For each and every team Hopkins has played for, he was the No. 1 receiver! There’s no doubt about his skills.
With Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman claiming the first two spots, he is likely the third option. Moreover, the Ravens’ star is also taking his time to bond with quarterback Lamar Jackson. After all, Jackson was the one who insisted to the front office to bring Hopkins to the team. “I don’t think it’s a [set] time frame. A guy like Lamar, who’s a veteran quarterback, he’s played a lot of football. Myself, I play a lot of football. We see things differently, but I’ve had rookie quarterbacks that have taken longer. So, it differs,” the WR said.
That might be troubling for the Chiefs with the departure of Hopkins. There was also concern about whether the team would be able to keep Trey Smith. The Chiefs must protect their quarterback, and this cannot be compromised. The team had to prioritize balancing a strong offensive line to win. Luckily, the team has secured Smith while Mahomes continues to work hard.
Now, Acho’s prediction might have come a bit too early, but no opinion can be taken lightly, at least the Chiefs seemingly aren’t taking anything lightly.
