Broadcasters Highlight Angel Reese’s ‘Ball Don’t Lie’ Moment After WNBA Officials Blunder Free Throw Call

Though nearly every outlet had penciled in a Wings win over the Sky, the events did not transpire as expected. Just like Buster Douglas toppled Mike Tyson, the Sky defied odds in every sense (literally). And it wasn’t just media predictions that were stacked against them tonight. The players themselves have been publicly self-critical of their performances this season. Case in point: in the game against the Lynx, which the Sky lost 80-75, Angel Reese was quite blunt in her post-match reaction, stating she was “tired of this s—.” And tonight’s game brought a similar reaction out of Reese, despite Chicago’s win.

It’s because, at the 3:56 mark in the 4th quarter, Myisha Hines-Allen absolutely hammered Rachel Banham. In the broadcasters’ words, “She (Hines-Allen) handed the ball off and then immediately made contact, even leaned into it. That’s a screen. By rule, the screener must allow reasonable time and distance for the defender (Banham) to avoid contact.” And from the video clip, it’s clearly visible that Hines-Allen had clearly body-checked Banham after passing the ball.

Chicago HC Tyler Marsh did not hesitate for a second before challenging the decision. As the refs were taking a look at the replay, the broadcasters commented on“this is taking longer than expected, but they want to get it right.” But apparently, they didn’t. The foul was given in Dallas’ favor as the original decision was upheld, much to the chagrin of the Sky supporters. The commentators also noted that the fans were shouting ‘slooot’. “It sounds like everyone in the arena is yelling ‘sloooot,’ but they’re not, probably something that rhymes with that.” And Angel Reese, being Angel Reese, she wasn’t gonna let this pass without a few words of her own.

After the challenge was declared unsuccessful, Dallas’ Aziaha James stepped up to the free-throw line. “And so… so yeah, Myisha Hines-Allen has got to be the free throw shooter, is what Angel Reese is arguing.” But the refs dismissed her argument, post which, “Angel gave a ‘ball don’t lie’ to Hines-Allen.” And Chicago’s performance backed that up. Rebecca Allen scored 27 points, and Angel Reese notched a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Even Rachel Banham added 11 points of her own.

Just like that, the host Chicago Sky outclassed the Dallas Wings 87-76 on Wednesday. Following the game, Chicago took to social media and trolled the Wings. Their post read, “GOODNIGHT DALLAS,” including a wink emoji. The Sky improved to 6-13 on the season. As for the Wings, they dropped to 6-15. The upcoming matches are crucial ones for both squads. The Sky will once again face the league-leading Lynx on Saturday afternoon. As for Dallas, the next outing will come on Sunday afternoon against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever.

But before that, let’s rewind back to a moment in the game when Angel Reese lost her ‘contact’.

Angel Reese’s Lost “Contact”

Angel Reese delivered one of the most unforgettable moments of the WNBA season during this victory of Chicago Sky’s 87-76, over the Dallas Wings. She ended the game with 15 points and 11 rebounds. With this, she kept up her standout rookie year. It got even bigger, being the same day with news that she’ll be on the cover of NBA 2K26 and drop her first signature Reebok shoe.

But the real highlight came in the fourth quarter of the game. Angel Reese scored a basket but had a contact lens knocked out in the process. Instead of stopping play, she picked it up, held onto it while sprinting back on defense, and then stole the ball. After the steal, she casually handed the contact to her coach and immediately went back to scoring. It was an insanely impressive show of focus and effort.

That effort might have been what helped seal the game away from Dallas, despite the odds stacked against them. Even with just one contact in, Angel Reese stayed dialed in. She scored back-to-back buckets and fueling the Sky’s late-game momentum. That relentless energy is why she’s still dominating the WNBA rebounding race, by a huge margin.

She also dished out a highlight-reel assist when she tossed a slick overhead no-look pass to Elizabeth Williams for an easy layup, proving once again (even though, at this point, she doesn’t have to) why she is considered one of the best in the league.
