Leanne Wong Drops Major News About Gymnastics Career After Massive Florida Gators Campaign

Leanne Wong officially committed to the Florida Gators on November 14, 2020, signing her National Letter of Intent to join the program for the 2022 season. She then made her NCAA debut on January 7, 2022, at a Florida-hosted quad meet featuring Rutgers, Northern Illinois, and Texas Woman’s University. The 21-year-old competed on uneven bars, balance beam, and floor, helping the Gators post a season-opening score of 197.675 and secure a decisive victory. In the years to come, she would not only perform better but also rob the international audience of her performance…

Her last elite gymnastics meet came in 2024. In Zurich on November 9, 2024, Leanne Wong teamed up with Fuzzy Benas at the 41st Swiss Cup. Representing Team USA in the unique mixed-pairs format, she went first on uneven bars, scoring 11.10 after a fall, while Benas scored 13.80 on floor. Their combined score of 24.90 narrowly missed advancing—eliminated in the opening round, they finished 9th overall. But now she is ready to serve that magic again on the international level.

Inside Gymnastics Magazine took to their official Instagram handle to post a picture of the American gymnast, where the overall text at the bottom read in big bold,” LEANNE WONG TO MAKE ELITE RETURN NEXT WEEK!” Further explaining in the caption, they wrote, “The ever-stylish Leanne Wong of the University of Florida is set for her return to Elite gymnastics at July’s U.S. Classic competition! Wong was the World All-Around silver medalist in 2021 and is coming off of an epic senior season with the Gators. Fans are eagerly counting down to her return! “

The 2025 U.S. Classic is set for July 18–19, 2025, at the NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. Many eyes would be on Wong as she comes from experience and achievements. Her elite gymnastics career started back in 2017, when she was just a freshman in high school. She captured silver in the women’s all-around at the 2021 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships on October 21, 2021, in Kitakyushu, Japan, scoring a total of 56.340, just behind gold medalist Angelina Melnikova’s 56.632.

Wong’s 14.066 Yurchenko double‑twist came in the Women’s Team Final at the 2023 FIG World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp on October 4, helping Team USA win its seventh straight world team title. Despite not competing for the Olympics in 2024, she had a great season with the Florida Gators, so that red-hot form is also something to consider.

Leanne Wong is coming in hot

In January, Wong launched her senior year by winning the all-around at the season-opening quad meet (January 10) with a top national score of 39.725, earning SEC Gymnast of the Week honors for her 9.950 scores on bars, beam, and floor. She maintained that momentum, sharing a season-high 39.75 and clinching three event titles, vault, bars, and beam, against Missouri on February 28, which earned her another SEC Gymnast of the Week.

Through the spring, Wong continued dominating: she recorded multiple perfect 10.0s on bars, beam, and floor, gave Florida program-high rotations at the SEC Championships, and helped the team win the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional with a 197.700 total, advancing to Nationals where they slipped in the semifinals . Academically, she was named to the SEC Community Service Team and earned her second straight College Sports Communicators Academic All‑America first-team .

What do you think of her performance, and what are your predictions for the U.S. Classic?
