Paige Bueckers’ Teammate Urged to Act After 7-Word Reaction to Chicago’s Angel Reese Gesture

DiJonai Carrington is not the one to shy away. She is usually the first player on the opponent’s face and has spoken out on numerous issues around the WNBA. But when it comes to banter and trolling, she is also the first to take things graciously. The same happened when Chicago went to their social media to celebrate their landmark win over the league leader Minnesota Lynx.

The team dropped a bold graphic featuring Angel Reese surrounded by a giant “W,” paired with the fiery caption: “Y’all ain’t beat Chicago???” followed by a skull emoji. It was a clear clap back at critics and rival fans, who have long written off the Sky as an easy win. But after knocking off one of the league’s top teams, the message was loud and clear: Chicago is no longer the team to overlook. The post didn’t just silence the doubters; it served as a warning shot. Underestimate the Sky at your own risk.

Despite being on the opposing side of the Dallas Wings, DiJonai Carrington couldn’t resist jumping in on the fun. She reposted the Sky’s graphic and added, “ayoooooo, nah y’all funny af for this,” along with laughing and handshake emojis. The kicker? The caption actually references her. In a previous livestream with Lynx players Natisha Hiedeman and Courtney Williams, the latter had trolled Carrington’s team by mocking their lack of wins, joking, “y’all ain’t beat Chicago?” Fast forward to now, and that joke didn’t age well. Williams might just have to eat her words after this one.

Carrington can possibly drop a similar clap back if they beat the Indiana Fever this Sunday, as they are also one of the fringe teams this season. Wings are considered the weakest and an easy win, but they will be determined to prove the haters wrong. Paige Buecekers and Co. will be extra motivated after watching the underdogs, Sky, beat the Lynx.

DiJonai Carrington to Chicago? Fans Are Manifesting It

DiJonai spent four years in Connecticut as a youngster, with limited experience. Her growth was steady, and her breakout year came in 2023 when she finished as a runner-up in the sixth player of the year race behind Alysha Clark. Carrington’s graph continued to move in the upward direction as she made the All-Defensive first team last year. Carrington moved to Dallas and is now tied as the third-oldest player on the roster. After her friendly interaction with the Sky, the Chicago fans are dreaming of a Carrington move to the Windy City.

“Always the truth teller. I would love to see you and Angel on a team WITH Courtney one day.” A fan named Danielle posted. And of course, she has reason to believe the trio can rule the court playing together. And what better than in Chicago itself? Even after the win, the Sky need consistency in their creativity. Sky stands 7th in the league when it comes to assist percentage, and DiJonai will provide more depth for that position. Sky general manager Jeff Pagliocca even met with Carrington in January when she was playing in Unrivaled, so the wish already has some history.

“Chicago needs you, Nai,” one fan wrote. Carrington has been key for the Wings wherever she has been on the court. She has been limited to just 14 games because of her rib injury. She has averaged 11.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists. That would rank her the third best in the point and assist metrics in the current Sky roster. The Chicago backcourt requires an influx as they lost Courtney Vandersloot with an injury earlier in the season.

“Can you come to Chicago?” Another fan wrote before further writing, I’m tired of asking fr fr like please.” The Sky needs guard depth that can handle the ball, create offensively, and solidify defense. That’s exactly the profile Carrington offers. Rachel Banham and rookie Hailey Van Lith are doing their part, but Carrington could be a more flexible player who could alternate between guard play and forward.

“Come to Chicago and giggle with us,” one fan wrote, pairing the comment with a playful Angel Reese GIF, a reflection of how much fans see DiJonai Carrington as a perfect cultural and competitive fit for the Sky. Beyond her reliable on-court production, Carrington brings an undeniable energy and chemistry that could thrive alongside Reese and the rest of the Chicago roster.

She has already shown she can build meaningful bonds, mentoring Dallas rookie Paige Bueckers while guiding her early WNBA journey. With Angel Reese, that connection is even more established. The two recently shared the mic on Reese’s podcast Unapologetically Angel, where they casually unpacked everything from league issues to style, showing off a natural, friendly dynamic.

“Admin got your back,” another fan chimed in, applauding the Sky’s post that served both as a clapback to doubters and a subtle nudge toward DiJonai Carrington. Some even saw it as a playful comeback directed at Courtney Williams, hinting at deeper league-wide banter. The moment captured not just the spirit of competition, but the tight-knit relationships forming across teams.

Carrington’s bond with Angel Reese adds another layer. From TikTok collabs and Unrivaled content to candid, off-court moments, their chemistry feels effortless. Their shared Reebok partnership further solidifies them as aligned personalities on and off the court, bold, marketable, and unapologetically authentic. If Carrington were to make a move to Chicago next season, it wouldn’t just be about filling a roster need. It would be a cultural statement. A vibe.
