That didn’t take long. The United Rentals 300 has gotten off to a controversial start. Like Friday night’s Truck Series race, a multi-car wreck occurred at Daytona International Speedway during the commercial break. In Lap 5, Brandon Jones got turned right from the bottom lane after making contact with Jesse Love, which caused a domino effect, sending him into Carson Kvapil before slamming into the wall.
Unfortunately, JR Motorsports’ rookie Connor Zilisch, Harrison Burton, Brennan Poole as well and Daniel Dye were caught in the crossfire, with all their cars suffering damage to varying degrees. With the stakes high, it’s not surprising to see a ‘Big One’ so early on in the 120-lap race. Every driver is looking to gain track positions at the ‘World Center of Racing’ to gain an on-track advantage over their rivals.

Despite six drivers being involved, it looks like Brandon Jones’ No. 20 Toyota suffered the most damage. As things stand, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver along with Daniel Dye and Brennan Poole have been relegated to the back of the grid because of the multi-car wreck and face an uphill climb now to salvage a result in the Xfinity Series opener at Daytona.
