Caitlin Clark’s Icy Reaction To Boyfriend Connor McCaffery Turns Heads: ‘Not Exactly Coldplay Concert Level Loving’

Visibility, ratings, and stars-studded entertainment wasn’t enough. Now fans want Caitlin Clark to bring romance to the WNBA too? We were steeling ourselves for no Captain Clark on the court this All-Star Weekend, anticipating some cooler offcourt moments instead. Maybe some interactions with Team Clark vets like Sabrina Ionescu. Perhaps we could see her reactions courtside too. Some fluffy fan moments as well. A little cuteness with her boyfriend if it’s not too much to ask. We got almost everything except that last one.

The injured Fever star walked into Gainbridge Fieldhouse for Friday’s events. While initially alone, she later met with her boyfriend Connor McCaffery outside the tunnel before they would go in. But a three-second awkward moment ensued.

In what has been described as a ‘kiss diss,’ Clark seemingly wasn’t in the mood for PDA with the cameras on them in the almost empty hallway. She turned her head and avoided a kiss. McCaffery settled for a kiss on her temple instead.

Somehow this moment activated meme galore. For some it was just a little brow-raising. The more unsavory ones taunted McCaffery.

They’ve been together since 2023 when they were both playing for the Iowa Hawkeyes. They have some sweet moments, especially their hug when Clark was selected first overall in the 2024 WNBA draft.

With McCaffery coaching the Butler Bulldogs, and previously an assistant for the Pacers, we get a lot more of their cute moments online. But this is not one of them. It made the Internet respond the way it always does.

The romance standards are high for Caitlin Clark’s fans

Now let’s be honest. CC’s injured, bummed about skipping All-Star at the last moment, but still bringing the vibes. She can’t be at a 100% at all times. Some at least hoped that her boyfriend would aid that. Unfortunately not.

This little interaction made someone ask, “Lmfaoooo does she even like him?” or outrightly conclude, “She’s not that into him.” Some won’t even call it close to a romance. More like, “That was a warm greeting lol”

There is some context to the online sentiment. In the past 12 hours before the All-Star Weekend, we witnessed a level of public romance that crosses a few lines and made Internet history. The standard of PDA went up for one to claim Clark and McCaffery are, “Not exactly Coldplay concert level loving.” Excuse us while we lift our collective jaws off the floor.

Now this relationship is nothing like the CEO and CPO of Astronomer. The college sweethearts can go to a Taylor Swift concert and be all kinds of cute and fun. Yet Clark goes viral for standing next to Travis Kelce instead. This recommendation – “I mean I was going to say they need Coldplay type couples therapy to bring that everlasting passion into their lives!” is totally not needed.

They have their moments. Just before her injury, they celebrated McCaffery’s birthday together and Clark had the sweetest message for him. “Happy happy happy birthday Con you make everyday better and I couldn’t be more grateful,” she toasted to him last Sunday. “May this be the best year yet, i love you .”

At least some tried to be understanding despite the awkwardness. Though sentiments like, “Right?! That was sort of awkward, lol. She might have been embarrassed though. Gotta remember she’s pretty young,” were in short supply. Do you think this was awkward for them too?
