Dodgers Issue Concerning Injury Update on Freddie Freeman After Scary HBP Forces Exit vs. Brewers

When it seemed like things couldn’t get any worse for the Dodgers, the Brewers delivered a harsh reminder of their vulnerability. They completed a clean sweep that stung more than just the standings. Now, on paper, the Dodgers’ 58–42 record and their position at the top of the NL West might suggest stability, even dominance. But the reality paints a far more troubling picture.

Over their last 12 games, the Dodgers have managed just two wins. A skid that reflects deeper issues within the roster. Chief among them is the growing list of injuries that continues to sap the team’s strength and momentum. With 13 players currently on the injured list, the Dodgers are struggling to maintain consistency and competitiveness. While it’s not quite the crisis level of 2021, when a franchise-record 36 players landed on the IL, the timing of this injury wave couldn’t be worse.

So, as the postseason race heats up, the Dodgers find themselves not only battling opponents but also the limits of their own depth and endurance. The latest came in the third game against the Brewers. More than losing the game by 5-6, the game also proved why the Dodgers might be the injury’s favorite child. “Freddie Freeman left the game with a left wrist contusion,” the official X handle of the Dodgers reads.

Reportedly, Freeman had to leave Sunday’s game against the Brewers after taking a pitch off his left wrist in the sixth inning. Highlight reel shows Brewers lefty Jose Quintana threw an 88 mph sinker that ran in. It nailed Freeman square on the wrist as he was trying to hold up a check swing. He immediately walked toward the dugout, had a quick chat with Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and a trainer, then headed down into the tunnel.

Hyeseong Kim came in to pinch-run and stayed in the game at second base. Miguel Rojas, who had started the day at second, slid over to cover first for Freeman. But wait, we got an update here!

As per the latest update, X-rays came back negative, so there’s no break. Still, there’s no clear timeline yet for when Freeman will be back in the lineup. However, we expect the Dodgers to put him back in the action at the earliest, considering his performance. Notably, the veteran first baseman has been off to a strong start this season, hitting .292 with 10 homers.

Well, fortunately, Freeman’s injury does not look serious. But what’s more serious is the Dodgers’ current performance.

The Dodgers’ struggle is getting serious

If you have an idea about the recent trajectories of MLB, you know how the Brewers and Dodgers are heading in completely different directions right now.

It’s a good scene at Milwaukee, as they extended their hot streak to 10 straight wins on Sunday with a 6-5 victory. They are now tied with the Cubs for first place in the NL Central. Meanwhile, the Dodgers are sliding fast and have now dropped 10 of their last 12 games.

What’s more, the Brewers have absolutely had the Dodgers’ number lately. With back-to-back series sweeps, they’ve become the first team to sweep the Dodgers in a season series of at least four games. The last came from the Cardinals back in 2006. Notably, in 2006, the Dodgers eventually finished the season in second place behind the Padres.

Back to the present, the Dodgers did manage a couple of wins against the Giants right before the All-Star break. But whatever momentum they had didn’t carry over. Since the break, things have gone south really fast. The bats went quiet on Friday, and the defense struggled on Saturday. And while Sunday started off promising, highlighted by a third-inning rally and a Shohei Ohtani homer to make it 3-0, the Dodgers couldn’t hold it together.

Result? A series of defensive miscues, including three errors, and letting the Brewers right back in it.

Nevertheless, not much is clicking for the Dodgers right now. But considering their history, it would still be too early to write them off. While their next shot at turning things around comes at home against the Twins, we would wait if the tables get turned. Also, it would be great to see Freeman back in action.
