Days After Making HBCU History, 19-Year-Old Gymnastics Star Breaks Silence on Leaving Arkansas University

HBCU gymnastics landed a gem of a gymnast in 2022. And three years later, they probably still have every reason to celebrate. Because it’s the same athlete who has now steered the entire Fisk University women’s gymnastics program to history. Yes, the NCAA gymnastics 2025 season is racing ahead with each day and teams are striving to make a mark. But for this 19-year-old star, it all came naturally. All she did was show up on the mat on a regular day and give her best.

We’re talking about none other than the HBCU gymnast Morgan Price. Joining the team since the inception of their first HBCU gymnastics program in 2022, Morgan started proving her worth right from the start. In her freshman year, she became the maiden all-around title winner from the college. Next year, she doubled down. Until her 2024 achievement of winning the USAG all-around national title, the first ever for HBCU became the shiniest gem in her crown. But amidst all this, the University of Arkansas remains at a loss. They were left on the side she decided to leave back in 2022.

But now, after another historic run with HBCU in 2025, the sophomore spoke to Togethxr and gave us a piece of her mind about her decision to de-commit. In the YouTube video aired by Togethxr on February 15, Morgan Price confessed, “When I de-committed from the University of Arkansas and switched to Fisk University, which is the HBCU, a lot of people didn’t really understand why I switched.” Years after standing by her decision, the gymnast finally addressed the doubts that were previously raised against her.

The gymnastics star had her reasons, and she finally decided to voice them today. “The decision that I made was bigger than just gymnastics and also just about like making history and like being an inspiration to the younger black girls, who want to become an HBCU gymnast as well,” she said. Price clearly feels responsible for a larger vision and not just the sport. “We’re representing our culture and, at the same time, doing gymnastics,” she confessed. Thus, we now know it was a well-thought-out move that was taken keeping multiple things in mind.

Even days ago, while Price was speaking to ESPN, she had mentioned, “We have a lot of eyes on us because we are the first and because we are making history, so it’s just so exciting to be a part of the first team ever.” Clearly, her reasons to have made the switch and now continue in the team are multifaceted. But one thing is sure. She is genuinely the best thing that happened to HBCU’s gymnastics program. How else could they have imagined breaking a 200+ year’s record?

HBCU shall forever be indebted to gymnastics star Morgan Price’s historic feat

In a trimeet at Temple University, Morgan Price etched history. The 19-year-old teenager scored a perfect 10 score on the uneven bars, which became the first-ever one for HBCU. Yes, she is the only gymnast who has achieved this feat for a Historically Black College or University in women’s NCAA gymnastics!

Before this, Morgan Price was known for her highest 9.90 on the event. But thanks to her exceptional full-twisting double-back dismount, she was able to take it to the highest possible mark. And this was special for the 2025 NCAA gymnastics season too, as Morgan Price’s perfect 10 was now the second perfect score on the bars this season. Naturally, this left the gymnastics fans in tears. Yet, it proves that Price is pretty indispensable on the team. What do you think? Let us know below!
