In the second quarter of the Super Bowl LIX game, Patrick Mahomes was sacked. Jalyx Hunt, who rushed towards the Kansas City Chiefs’s quarterback from behind, held his waist to stop him. This sack helped the Philadelphia Eagles to stay ahead with their 10-0 lead. So, obviously it was a moment to celebrate. However, Hunt had a different way to do that which the NFL didn’t like.
After tackling Patrick Mahomes, Jalyx Hunt immediately stood up and ran towards the crowd. He stopped in the front at the open and mimed as though he was shooting a bow and arrow. This celebratory gesture didn’t sit well with the league, who imposed a fine on him worth $5,690 for unsportsmanlike conduct and alleged “violent gesture.”
Nevertheless, linebacker Jalyx Hunt is turning the adversity into an opportunity. Yes! Despite this situation, he asked his fans to support Philadelphia high school students. On his official X account, he shared his “bow and arrow” celebration video, and wrote: “Mannn (laughing emoji) I appreciate yall reaching out about pay the fine, but if y’all are serious about it let’s make a deal… I’ll pay the fine and y’all send the money to a great cause I learned about from my barber in Philly. Go Birdssss!!”

Jalyx Hunt also made sure to drop the link where fans can donate whatever amount they want to. This happened when Rob McElhenney, a Philadelphia native, offered to cover the NFL fine for the athlete. But the Super Bowl champ LB had another plan for him as well as others.
Jalyx Hunt encouraged McElhenney and others to contribute to Barbers Who Care. It’s an organization that helps underserved students from Boys’s Latin of Philadelphia High School go on college tours. McElhenney stepped up, donating $5,690 – the exact amount of Hunt’s fine. And Hunt was happy to see this, as he replied to the Philly native, “Man of your word! This is amazing, thank you” on X. But McElhenney wasn’t alone.
Eagles fans flooded the donation page, many leaving comments like “Go Birds!” as they chipped in. The movement quickly gained momentum, and the fundraiser has now reached $20,396 (ahead of its $20,000 goal). This good cause of Jalyx Hunt was liked and appreciated by fans, as they slammed the league for opposing the alleged “unnecessary” fine at the LB.
Jalyx Hunt has support from his fans!
After Rob McElhenney’s great getsure, Jalyx Hunt’s other fans too came up to show their support for the linebacker. Besides donating as per their preference, they also didn’t miss the chance to call out against the NFL for the fine. For instance, one said, “This was worth a fine!? Haha wow soft as baby sh-t on this one #NFL.” Like this fan, many others too think that this “bow and arrow” gesture isn’t worth a fine. Instead, it’s a gesture which players have been doing for years.
For example, a fan commented, “Only reason you got fined was cause it was against the Chiefs. Players have done that celebration after a sack and touchdown for years.” The Chiefs are no new to being referred to as the NFL or refs’s favorite. This time too, despite them losing to the Eagles, the fan trolled the team, while mentioning it has been done by many players. Yeah! We have seen that too, especially when Travis Kelce made this his signature gesture after his touchdowns. That’s what was mentioned in another comment – “Isn’t this how a certain Chiefs player walks out on to the field each game? I’m genuinely confused as to why one is right and one is wrong.”
Nevertheless, fans are furious at the league for hitting Jalyx Hunt with an arguably “ridiculous” fine. This is evident in their comments like, “Absolutely ridiculous reason to fine you unless they planned on using that fine money for something like said good cause *SPOILERS* they wouldn’t,” or “What a ridiculous fine! I have seen female gymnasts do the same motion as part of their dance routine! I seriously doubt that the Chiefs’ quarterback was ever afraid of being shot with an arrow. His only fear was of being sacked over and over.”
Never mind, Jalyx Hunt has found a silver lining in this case, portraying his great character!
