Track and Field Fans Voice Frustration as FloTrack Podcasters Falter in Diamond League Talk

Back in April 2024, the entire world of track and field felt a wave of disappointment. Citius Mag confirmed that the Diamond League will now move to FloTrack’s broadcasting network with a price tag of $29.99/month, or $149.99/year. And the package didn’t include the Prefontaine Classic. No wonder the fans were disappointed. But there was one more factor that further intensified the fans’ feelings.

Talking about the partnership with FloTrack, Petr Stastny stated, “This partnership represents our shared commitment to elevating the profile of track and field, providing fans with unparalleled access to our premier series of events. As we continue to celebrate athletic excellence on the global stage, we look forward to inspiring new generations of athletes and fans through this dynamic collaboration.” But the steep rise in paywall garnered nothing but the fans’ discontent. And now, FloTrack’s The Meet Up made a fumble that caused the fans to lash out once again.

During episode 21 of The Meet Up, Johnny Pace weighed in on Yared Nuguse and Hobbs Kessler’s performance in the 1500m race at the 2025 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. That’s when Nia Gibson stated that Nuguse is probably planning to get a wild card entry to the Olympic team. That made Pace wonder, “So, what does that mean? If you win the Diamond League final, then you get a wild card entry. Is that right?”

But the co-hosts of the show were oblivious to how the wild card entry works. Gibson stated, “I’m actually not sure.” And Demitra Carter claimed, “I’m not sure of the exact details, but that’s the gist.” For the unversed, a wild card entry is basically an invitation for an athlete to compete in the season final even though they failed to qualify through the points system. Normally, wild cards are given to world champions, Olympic champions, and other high-profile stars.

But things went wrong when FloTrack hosts’ words found their way to X. A fan account by the name @Predamame shared the clip of the episode through the social media platform. And the caption read, “Come on, guys. You’re the outlet that has the US diamond league rights. You should know how the diamond league works!”

It didn’t take the fans long to swoop into the comments section and express themselves. But unfortunately for FloTrack podcasters, most of them stood against the broadcasting company for their unawareness. Let’s see what they had to say, shall we?

Fans don’t like it when FloTrack podcasters fumble about the Diamond League

Do you remember the Change.org petition that went live right after FloTrack announced that it would hold the Diamond League coverage in the USA from 2025? It reflected a demand for better leadership in the sport, reasoning that the collaborative decision was pretty poor. Now, the fans got another chance to lash out at FloTrack, but this time, it was for their podcasters’ unawareness. One wrote, “This is actually just embarrassing. Stop giving a platform to people that refuse to learn about the topic they pretend to have expertise in. Another fan added to the notion and wrote, “Man that whole segment showed how much they know about the Diamond League.  They knew more about GST than DL earlier this year.”

A few others took a strong stance against the broadcasting company. FloSports has been covering wrestling, gymnastics, basketball, grappling, and many more. But the fans don’t seem happy with their understanding of them. One fan broke it down and commented, “you own a company so you might understand more then me with your business mind. How a s—–, useless company like Flo continue to exist? And why do companies who see there s— product use their services?” Another fan simply wrote, “It’s FLO man. Lower your expectations.”

The disappointment kept on growing, with fans expressing themselves with phrases like “For the love of god.” Meanwhile, one fan made a connection with the NBA. The comment read, “Finally track has the NBA’s version of Kendrick Perkins and Skip Bayless!” After all, both Skip Bayless and Kendrick Perkins have come under heavy fire for their commentary. But what do you think of FloTrack’s acquisition of the Diamond League’s broadcasting rights?
