Angel Reese Maintains Firm Hold on WNBA Record Over Caitlin Clark’s Teammate Despite Two-Week Absence

The last time Angel Reese suited up, she fought through injury, and she fought for her team. “It was ugly, ugly for me, but I tried to push through as much as I could for my teammates because I know they need me out there,” the forward uttered after a 22-point piece against Washington on July 29. There has been no timeline for her return since, and unfortunately, little reason to– the Sky’s season looks about lost, and her record still remains intact.

Chicago is 8-23 with only 13 games left before the playoffs, leaving little to no hope for the postseason. Even Reese’s sophomore campaign mirrored her team’s rocky start. She shot just 30.9% from the field in her first seven games. That included 16-of-50 (32%) in the restricted area. But the young forward bounced back strong. Her FG% went up by nearly 15, double-doubles tallied to 17, and her rebound game? As dominant as ever. Reese leads the category, and no one’s even close.

Two weeks since her last game, and the 23-year-old is still topping the most rebounds in a single season list. Reese is leading the pack by a mile, having 289 rebounds in just 23 games.

At the time of writing, A’ja Wilson (268 in 28) is sitting in the second spot, and Caitlin Clark’s teammate, Aliyah Boston (264 in 32), has the final podium position. With a 21-rebound difference between Reese and the second position, it goes on to show how lethal the Chicago Sky player is under the net. That was the case in her rookie year, too. Reese had grabbed a record 446 rebounds before a wrist injury sidelined her for the rest of the season, and the Aces star rushed ahead to finish with 451. The scene looks eerily similar once again. But will the young forward let it be?

“in due time,” Reese wrote on X Monday night after Chicago Sports of Mind reported she was observing practice. For now, though, she is still day-to-day, and coach Tyler Marsh says, “I think she’s progressing but still kind of wait and see.”

Seems like the forward is ready to get back and fight for what’s left of the season, but her team’s performance has been one big crash and burn.

Angel Reese’s stellar performance cannot save the Chicago Sky’s playoff hopes

The Chi-town Barbie had a bold prediction for the 2025 season: “We will make the playoffs next year!! And she has carried her team this entire season. She leads her team in points scored (14.2), rebounds (12.6), and assists (3.7) per game, despite missing two weeks. Furthermore, she quickly turned around her rocky start this season, and that too in style. She became the first WNBA player to have multiple double-double streaks of at least 10 games.

Reese achieved this feat twice during the 2025 season. The crescendo came during the July 23 game against the Lynx. She recorded her tenth consecutive double-double that day, marking the second time she had accomplished this record. With Angel Reese performing on the highest level and the support of Ariel Atkins and Kamilla Cardoso, why does her team miss on the playoff chances?

Fans have directed their frustration at Chicago Sky head coach Tyler Marsh and general manager Jeff Pagliocca. The team holds the worst defensive rating in franchise history, and their offense is struggling just as badly. Their current offensive rating of 97.7 is the lowest since 2012. Marsh remains confident his team can still win games, but the internet has lost patience. In the middle of this turmoil, attention has shifted to Reese and her plans for next season. And only time will reveal that answer.
