So, at the 2025 Cincinnati Open final, everyone was really looking forward to the showdown between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. Unfortunately, it took a turn for the worse when Sinner had to retire in the middle of the match because of the heat. What a bummer!
The match was shaping up to be a classic showdown between two of tennis’ brightest young stars, but things took a surprising turn when Sinner, clearly in some physical discomfort, decided to pull out. It was pretty clear he was struggling, with limited movement and some grimaces at times, which made it seem like Cincinnati’s weather was really getting to him.
Retirement followed a pretty intense match, where Alcaraz totally crushed his Italian opponent with a score of 5-0 (with zero sets completed). Fans in the crowd showed their support as the Italian player shook hands with Alcaraz, handing over the match and trophy to his Spanish opponent. His withdrawal gave Alcaraz the Cincinnati Open title, adding to the 22-year-old’s impressive collection of ATP Masters 1000 trophies.

Now, Sinner is all about recovery as he gears up for the US Open, hoping to get back to full fitness for another chance at that Grand Slam breakthrough. The sudden ending had tennis analysts wondering just how serious the issue was and if it might affect his chances at Flushing Meadows.
This is a developing report…
