How Many Languages Does Henry Cejudo Speak?

Being able to converse fluently is something that the fighting community necessitates. Imagine how interesting it would have been if Alex Pereira had understood Dricus Du Plessis’s callout at UFC 312 right away. But today, we’re going to focus on a former UFC double champion who has mesmerized many with his talks. It’s none other than Henry Cejudo

We know that Cejudo speaks pretty clean English. But is English his first language? Well, even though he speaks like a native English speaker, that’s not his mother tongue.

Henry Cejudo’s primary language

The Olympic gold medalist was born and raised in the United States of America. However, he is often connected with Mexican society due to his lineage. He has often claimed that he was a proud American, but he never forgot about the blood of the Aztec warriors that pumped through his veins. And growing up in a Mexican household, ‘Triple C’ usually conversed in Espanol. Well, that’s what he has claimed himself.

Back in 2015, the former UFC bantamweight and flyweight champion released a video on Facebook that showed him quizzing his young cousin. In the caption, Henry Cejudo wrote, “Spanish was my first language before I started going to school.” The same was true for his cousins. However, they had to learn English because they were going to school in the USA. But his alliance lay majorly with America, not Mexico.

In a previous interview, he said, “I’m just grateful for my country bro. What our forefathers have done for us. I mean, look what President Trump is doing. Then look at a lot of these Mexican activists that are burning the American flag. Like… get the f— out of here man. Why would you do that?” Nevertheless, the 38-year-old has often shouldered both the US and Mexican national flags, even though he claimed to represent America.

Is there any other language that ‘Triple C’ speaks? Let’s find out everything about the former UFC champ-champ’s linguistic proficiency. After all, conversing in multiple languages fluently is nothing short of an achievement.

Henry Cejudo’s other languages and background

We’ve all seen Cejudo enjoy his time with a microphone inside the Octagon. On top of that, he also has a talk show called ‘Pound4Pound Podcast’, where he speaks pretty fluent English. Needless to say, ‘Triple C’ has weighed in on hundreds of different topics with Kamaru Usman on the talk show. But what’s the other language that he speaks? Well, surprisingly, it’s Portuguese.

Prior to his flyweight title defense against TJ Dillashaw at UFC on ESPN+ 1, he revealed secrets of his tongue. Cejudo said, “I’m probably one of the more sophisticated fighters in the UFC. I speak three different languages. I speak English, Spanish, Portuguese fluent. I’m an author of two books that are out internationally, I’ve worked with the [former] President [Barack Obama] and Michelle Obama firsthand. I’ve been invited to the White House.”

Coming to February 22, 2025, the former Olympian is set to lock horns with Song Yadong at UFC Seattle. Cejudo is currently on a 2-fight losing streak. We can certainly expect him to do his best to outperform the Chinese bantamweight contender and redeem himself. Whatever the outcome might be, we’re definitely going to enjoy the showdown between the two, don’t you agree?
