“Jon is going to stay on IR. Knee hasn’t responded the right way, so unfortunately for Jon, and us. But just had a talk with him here a little bit ago and he’s going to have to stay on IR.” Those were Kyle Shanahan’s words when he announced in November that his star guard, Jon Feliciano, wasn’t able to recover from his knee injury suffered back in the training camp. And by the time the season ended, Feliciano couldn’t even play a game. Maybe that setback of his failing to recover from a knee injury was just too much for him to take at 33.
So, with the season coming to a close a few weeks back. The veteran offensive lineman has since decided to hang up his cleats. Today he took to his Instagram to announce his decision to retire from gridiron duties thanking all of his coaches and the teams he played for, “Thank you to all my coaches that helped me get to where I’m at. Too many of you guys to list and don’t want to miss any. One I can’t miss @b0bby_j0hns0n love you man. You changed my families life. Thank you. Thankful to have played for 4 great organizations @raiders @buffalobills @nygiants and @49ers To my team @sportstarsnyc @firestarterceo thank you for all your hard work over the years.”
With Feliciano retiring, 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey was one of the first ones to congratulate on his decade-long NFL career. “Real one @jonathanfeliciano It was an honor.”
