Aaron Rodgers Ex-Teammate Demands Equal Treatment for Jordan Love as Patriots Projected to Deplete Linked Packers’ Offense

Are the Green Bay Packers‘ WR corps just not good enough? The last time they picked a wideout in the first round was way back in 2002, when they drafted Javon Walker. Since then, they’ve never felt the need to use a first-round pick on that position. But it’s high time to end that streak now because Green Bay’s wide receiver group hasn’t lived up to the hype or expectations. Jordan Love‘s receivers were not fast enough, did not run their routes sharply, or simply couldn’t shake off the defenders covering them. And it has affected his overall performance.

Love’s struggles with his receivers are something everyone could see. So, why has the Packers brass turned a blind eye to this? Well, Aaron Rodgers‘ former teammate, Kurt Benkert, is here to open their eyes. The former QB has called for the team to provide better support for Jordan by bringing in stronger receivers. “The Packers need to do right by Jordan Love. Find him a game-changing receiver,” Kurt wrote on X.

Benkert has called out the Packers, naming all the top WRs around the league and reminding them they need to step up their game. He points to Joe Burrow’s lethal connection with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, and how Jalen Hurts took home the Lombardi this season with AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith. Almost every QB has receivers that make them even better, but the Packers’ situation is looking way worse. “Damn near every team in the league has someone that stands out. Time to make it right,” the former QB added.

The Packers‘ WRs had trouble getting open against man coverage. Dontayvion Wicks had a drop rate of 17.0% in the 2024 season, the highest in the league. Jayden Reed secured the third position in the league when it came to drop rate. Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs both had inconsistencies in catching passes. On top of that, Watson had to exit the season after he tore his ACL in the Week 18 game. Reports suggest he could miss the start of the 2025 season following the injury.

And considering all this chaos, maybe it’s time the team addresses the position just like Kurt Benkert said. Speaking of Green Bay’s offense, things might get messier, with the Patriots now being linked to one of their key offensive players.

Packers’ Romeo Doubs drawing eyes in New England?

Last year in October, Romeo Doubs created quite a frenzy after the WR skipped two practice sessions. It happened after the Packers lost a game to the Vikings in the first week of October. Doubs had failed to complete a direct pass briefly in his possession, after which he appeared enraged. Reports said that the WR was unhappy with his opportunities in Green Bay’s passing game. The 25-year-old was suspended for a week after failing to appear for the practice sessions.

Although afterward, Romeo brushed off the rumors, saying, “It’s a great offense here, got some ballplayers in our room. It’s much bigger than just me individually finding my role… I absolutely wish I would’ve handled things differently.” But there’s no denying there were some tensions between both parties. So, after all this, if a Romeo Doubs trade happens, it won’t come as a surprise.

The Patriots, under new HC Mike Vrabel, are rebuilding their team. For the WR corps, they’ve signed veteran Mack Hollins. But Pro Football’s Sterling Xie says the team could add a young receiver to their roster. So, it could be a perfect opportunity for Romeo to get out of the Packers’ crowded WR room if the Pats seek a trade for him. In the 2024 season, Doubs caught 46 passes for 601 yards and scored 4 TDs as the WR2 for the Packers. He has one year remaining on his $4.34M deal.

So, it’s likely that Romeo Doubs might look for opportunities elsewhere, especially considering the Packers might not offer him a long-term deal. In this case, a trade could be appealing for both the Packers and the Patriots. It would give Doubs a better chance elsewhere, and Green Bay could capitalize on his remaining year under contract.
