Aaron Rodgers’ NFL Career in Jeopardy as Giants Make Aggressive Move for Cam Ward

Aaron Rodgers has spent nearly two decades making the opposing defenses look foolish, pulling off no-look passes like an NFL version of a magician. But now? The league isn’t exactly rolling out the red carpet for his return. After tearing his Achilles four snaps into the Jets’ season, Rodgers was supposed to come back with a vengeance. But nope, he returned with a brutal 5-12, and the Jets decided to move on from him.

Now, the 41-year-old veteran QB is looking for a new team. The Los Angeles Rams were a solid option when Matthew Stafford’s trade rumors were circulating. But that didn’t work out for him because the Rams want to stick with Stafford. And the New York Giants? Well, at one point, the Giants were expected to sign him but looks like they’re eyeing a rookie now. That said, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini now believes that there are not many teams interested in Rodgers.

On Tuesday, Russini appeared on the Scoop City podcast where she talked about A-Rod’s future in the league. “I don’t think there’s a lot of teams right now that are—and we’ve talked about this last week even before I told you about the Giants having interest in him, I don’t think he has a lot of options,” Russini said.

You see, Rodgers has been in the league for almost two decades now. That means he doesn’t want to play for money, right? I mean, the guy’s surely looking to win a Lombardi before he hangs up his cleats. Russini believes that if the Rams had traded Stafford, the Los Angeles team could be the perfect fit for Rodgers to win a Super Bowl.

But nope—Stafford’s staying put, and any chance of A-Rod catching a train from New York to Hollywood is officially off the tracks. As for the Super Bowl dream? Yeah, that’s looking like a long shot now. And that’s a major concern for Russini. “You know, the LA situation was the best one for him and the second Stafford decided to go back, that was actually my first thought was like ‘oh man Rogers is going to have to…maybe go to a team that he’s not going to win with,” she continued

So now what? Sure, there are a bunch of QB needy teams in 2025, but looks like no one’s dialing Rodgers’ number. The Las Vegas Raiders could be an option. But nah, they’re probably interested in Russell Wilson or the best? Sam Darnold. So, is it time for A-Rod to consider retirement? Let’s be real—the way things are shaping up, retirement is the best option for Rodgers. Call it a day, hit the golf course, and start working on that handicap.

Because, it’s pretty certain. The Giants were probably the last option that Rodgers had and they’re looking to draft a rookie in the 2025 NFL draft.

The Giants probably want Cam Ward instead of Aaron Rodgers

The Tennessee Titans hold the first overall pick of the 2025 NFL draft—at least for right now. Because, the thing is that both the New York Giants and the New York Jets have reached out to the Titans for the first overall pick. “I would say we’ve had some phone calls, yeah,” Titans’ general manager, Mike Borgonzi said. “And I’ll keep those phone calls (close) to the vest, but we’ve had some phone calls, yeah.”

Now, here’s the deal: the Giants hold the 3rd overall pick and they’re probably eyeing Miami’s QB, Cam Ward, to lead their O-line in the 2025 season. And when asked if the Giants are interested in Cam Ward in a one-year situation than Rodgers, Russini went straight-up and said, “That’s why I think the Giants are aggressively calling the Tennessee Titans trying to move up.”

You see, Ward is expected to be one of the top two picks in this year’s class. That means the Giants are trying their best to trade for the 1st overall pick with the Titans. But what about the Tennessee team? I mean, they’re also one of those QB needy teams, right? Because, let’s be real—it’s unlikely Will Levis will start the whole 2025 season for them.

Well, they’ve a couple of options to build a strong O-line this season. For starters, the Tennessee team is in need of a franchise QB and they could draft Ward with their first overall pick. Besides, they’ve other options to either draft Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter. Both of them are the top prospects in this year’s draft.

BUT! The team just has two picks in the top 100. That means they can trade down and acquire extra draft capital. The odds are favoring the Titans to trade down for more draft picks. However, the real question isn’t if they’ll trade the first overall pick—it’s who they’re making the deal with.
