After Calling Brooks Koepka & Co Money-Driven, Golf Governing Body Forced to Rewrite Rules for LIV Players

New gates to major championship qualification have just opened up! Since the last few days, authorities of two major tournaments have announced exemptions for top LIV Golf players. The U.S. Open and the British Open have confirmed that the likes of Sergio Garcia and Brooks Koepka can earn their way back to the major events through their LIV Golf performances. Yes, the Saudi-based promotion is finally getting recognition from the world of professional golf.

This comes as a surprise considering how some of them, especially the Open Championship leaders, had criticized Bryson DeChambeau & Co. for their “money-driven” motives. The same committee has now provided even more lee-way to the LIV Golf players.

As announced by the X account of Flushing It, the R&A has confirmed that the highest-ranked Top 5 player in a LIV Golf season will receive an exemption into the Open Championship. They also added that the top 3 players in The International Series Macau event will also qualify for the major.

 

The R&A has today announced a direct exemption for LIV Golfers via the official LIV Golf League Standings list into The Open Championship. The highest ranked player in the top 5, not already exempt, after LIV Golf Dallas will be awarded a spot to Portrush.

What does this mean for the future of Brooks Koepka and his fellow LIV Golf players? Are we getting close to the merger with the PGA Tour getting completed? Only time will tell.
