Okay, so the Super Bowl LIX went down, and the Eagles crushed the Chiefs in New Orleans! No three-peat for Patrick Mahomes this year, thanks to Philly’s insane defense and Jalen Hurts balling out. Cooper DeJean with a pick-six? Josh Sweat just wouldn’t quit with the pressure. Mahomes had a rough one– turnovers and a low passer rating had people talking. Adding to the drama, there was a suspicious offensive pass interference call against AJ Brown that had everyone yelling at their TVs and he’s not letting this one down easy!
In a dazzling display of grit and glory, the Philadelphia Eagles stomped the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22, securing their second Super Bowl ring and shattering the Chiefs’ dreams of a three-peat dynasty. Jalen Hurts was straight fire, and the Eagles’ D? Untouchable. Talk about a statement win! But here’s where it gets spicy. Hot off the heels of the victory, A.J. Brown drops this tweet: “I’m a Super Bowl Champion Forever!!!” Now, that could just be pure celebration, right? Perhaps. But could it be a subtle jab, a little wink back to a certain comment he made about Mahomes way back when?

Flashback to the 2020 season, and Brown was feeling himself. When asked about the Eagles’ defense, he confidently proclaimed, “They played unbelievable. They played lights out. That’s a good team, that’s a good quarterback. He’s probably the best quarterback in the game. We just made him look average. And we know he’s not average.” So, you see, the tweet adds a layer of intrigue. Was A.J. just basking in the Super Bowl glow, or was he subtly reminding everyone who came out on top this time? Only he knows for sure!
While Mahomes put up a good fight alongside the rest of the Chiefs, they stood no match to the wrath brought in by the Eagles!
Patrick Mahomes confesses who’s to blame for the loss
Following the game, Terry Bradshaw, capturing the sentiment of many, asked Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts, “Well…How cool is this? This got to be especially sweet for you, having to answer so many critics who say, ‘Why don’t you throw for more yards? Why don’t you do this? Why don’t you do that?’…What do you say in response to all that Jalen?” The sting of the loss was compounded by the fact that the Kansas City Chiefs missed the opportunity to become the first team to three-peat in the Super Bowl era.
Hurts responded, “God is good, with us in the highs and the lows. I wouldn’t be here without my teammates the effort and determination everyone displayed…I can’t control what these people think, but if it takes all the hating, all the scrutiny, all the different opinions for me to be a world champion, keep it coming.” This wasn’t the first time Hurts addressed criticism, having previously stated, “I don’t play the game for stats…success is defined by that particular individual, and it’s all relative to the person. And what I define it as is winning.” Not to mention that Patrick Mahomes, who turns 30 in September, also missed the chance to become the first quarterback with four Super Bowl titles before his 30th birthday
Mahomes shouldered the blame for the Chiefs’ defeat. “We didn’t start how we wanted to. Obviously, the turnovers hurt, and I mean, I just kinda, I take all the blame for that,” Mahomes admitted in the post-game press conference. He continued, “Those early turnovers swing the momentum of the game, and then they capitalized on them…So that’s 14 points that I kinda gave them, and it’s hard to come back from that in the Super Bowl. And so, just didn’t play to my standard, and I’ll have to be better next time…Yeah, I mean, credit to the Eagles, man. They played better than us from start to finish.”
Mahomes also tweeted, “Appreciate all the love and support from #ChiefsKingdom I let y’all down today. I’ll always continue to work and try and learn and be better for it. Want to give thanks to God for every opportunity he has given me. We will be back” But after such a monumental achievement, how do you even begin to top this? Getting over this one is going to be tough for the Eagles.
