If there’s one thing about Teofimo Lopez, it’s that the drama never stops with him. For a guy with some serious talent, it’s often the off-court antics that keep him in the headlines more than his actual boxing résumé. Since the start of this year, The Takeover’s been on a wild ride—throwing out controversial statements, some of which are racial comments, subsequently getting publicly humbled by Terence Crawford, and just generally making more noise with his words than his punches.
Now, Teofimo Lopez is stepping back into the spotlight. He’s set to face Arnold Barboza Jr. on one of the undercards of the massive Fatal Fury event going down May 2nd at Times Square in New York. Big lights, big stage—and of course, big mouth. Naturally, Teofimo Lopez had something pointed to say during their recent round table discussion before the big event. No surprise there. And now, guess who’s chiming in with their response? George Kambosos Jr.
During the interview, while Lopez was hyping himself up, Arnold Barboza Jr., referring to Lopez’s November 2021 loss to George Kambosos Jr, stated, “You saying Kambosos didn’t beat your a**?” Lopez immediately replied, “No, he did not.” This left Barboza exasperated. “C’mon, what you talking about!” Barboza exclaimed. “No, I beat my own a**,” Lopez replied. He then added, “How many times did they postpone the fight?” Lopez queried rhetorically. Soon, Devin Haney cut in and asked, “So when you fought, did he beat your a** or not?”
Lopez again replied, “No, he did not.” Angered by the line of questioning, Lopez said to Haney, “I put him [Kambosos Jr.] down in the 10th round with my conditions on top of that. And you shouldn’t be talking about beating a**es because the man to my left [Ryan Garcia] done whoop that.” as expected, it would take long for George Kambosos Jr. to come across the exchange. The Australian soon took to X and stated, “Yep I f**ked that bi–h up, the condition was an A– WHOOPING. Ya makeup wearing Fugazi he’s a delusional weird cat this one .”

It wasn’t just Kambosos throwing shade at Teofimo Lopez. Devin Haney jumped in earlier, too. And in case you forgot how that all unfolded… don’t worry, this writer has got you covered. Let’s rewind the drama real quick.
Teofimo Lopez trying to get the ladies
Teofimo Lopez was in full-on showman mode when he hit the stage ahead of his May 2nd fight against Arnold Barboza Jr. at Times Square, New York. And it was loud, wild, and everything but boring. Teofimo Lopez, wearing makeup (yes, that actually became a topic), came in guns blazing — trash-talking, talking over the host Todd Grisham, and making sure all eyes were on him.
The face-off? Explosive. Barboza Jr. knocked Teo’s cowboy hat off, and The Takeover answered back by slapping him. Security had to step in to break it up. Classic pre-fight fireworks. During the exchange, Teofimo Lopez called himself a “giant slayer”, claiming Barboza isn’t even a giant but hinted that bigger forces — possibly promotional ones — are behind the fight. Barboza wasn’t buying any of it and called him “fake.” The 27-year-old hit back with a quote that only he could pull off: “I ain’t no fake. You fake it until you make it. We made.”
From there, it got even more heated. Things escalated when Teofimo Lopez, while firing at Arnold Barboza, dragged The Dream in between. “You’re not going to do nothing. What are you looking at, Haney?” Teofimo Lopez fired. Haney clapped back immediately, saying, “You got on makeup. Don’t talk to me.” Teofimo Lopez, always ready with a comeback, replied: “Damn right, baby. Have you ever heard of Bret Michaels? He loves mascara, and we get all the ladies.” Haney shot back: “You’re a character.”
So yeah — this wasn’t just a serious conversation. It was part boxing promo, part WWE, part soap opera… and totally Teofimo Lopez. And now? May 2nd just got a whole lot more interesting.
