After Shocking Twist in Ilia Topuria Camp Before UFC 317, UFC Legend Backs ‘Mature Response’ to Split

Ilia Topuria is ready to fight for the lightweight belt and fulfill his goals of being a dual weight champ. Naturally he is not leaving any stones unturned for the UFC 317 bout against Charles Oliveira. He is so locked in that he decided to revamp some aspects of his training recently. Team Topuria has undergone a major switch-up in the past week. Topuria has decided to officially leave Climent Club, operated by Jorge and Agustin Climent.

This team also consisted of his brother Aleks Topuria and the Ribeiro brothers, and Jesus Gallo. The split was not under any harsh circumstances and was pretty amicable as Climent mentioned himself. In fact veteran former UFC middleweight champ Michael Bisping posted on X that this was a mature response from his coach.

Red Corner MMA posted Climent’s response to Topuria leaving: “Ilia Topuria’s former coach Jorge Climent opens up about their split: ‘He wants to fly on his own now. We’re proud of everything we built together.’” The coach said, “It’s real. He went to live in Madrid. I have my project here with my brother. Ilia went to Madrid, he has his gym in his house, and he wants all the energy on himself. We decided like gentlemen. Now we don’t work together anymore. I always feel this is not good for sentimental things, but it’s life. We went with him on his journey, and now he has grown and wants to fly away. We are very proud to have done all the work with him.”

Very mature response from his coach. https://t.co/oq07UZ6Joh

He also mentioend that he is proud of ‘La Leyenda even though there is a pinch of sadness too. According to him the whole team sat together and talked about the split a week before. “Of course, we are friends,” Climent concluded. “We love him. We love his brother. We know he’s going to win, everybody will try to fight with him because he’s the best. And he’s always going to be our son.”

Clearly Topuria has no baggage that he needs to worry about since the split was amicable. However Topuria’s ‘mimic’ recently described some loopholes of his gameplan.

Ilia Topuria’s fighting style has some drawbacks, Jean Silva exposed

‘Do Bronxaka Charles Oliveira is gearing up for his title fight with the help of his team which includes Jean Silva. The Fighting Nerds alumni, decided to join Oliveira’s camp.  Silva confidently declared that he could imitate Topuria perfectly, and he is similar in size to the former featherweight champ. He spoke to AG Fight, and said, “I can imitate Topuria perfectly. Even his facial expressions—I’ve got them down.”

He also pointed out certain loopholes in Topuria’s fighting style. Silva on his YouTube channel said, “Topuria has powerful hips, but when he throws a heavy hook, it often causes him to turn so much that he gives up his back. This happened multiple times in the fight with Bryce Mitchell.” Silva also pointed out that Topuria tends to ‘set up his right leg’ before throwing a jab. The Brazilin added,  He pulls his rear leg far back and hides it, his stance becomes very sideways. He throws a jab, takes a step back, his eyes look under his left arm, then comes a small feint, some movement, and he fires the right straight. Even when he throws that right straight, it looks more like an overhand.”

Silva has a 5 fight-winning streak in UFC right now and is similar in size to Topuria standing at 5’7”. So do you think Oliveira will have a rehearsal of fighting someone like Topuria before he gets to the main day? Share your thoughts on this in the comments below.
