After Taking a Shot at Scottie Scheffler, Phil Mickelson Mocked for Living in ‘LIV Golf Bubble’

We all know Scottie Scheffler’s 2025 season got off to a rough start! All because of a wrist injury from a Christmas dinner mishap. He came back at Pebble Beach, then recorded a T5 finish at The Genesis, and unfortunately missed his chance at a three-peat at the PLAYERS. The world took note of this. Phil Mickelson too. He weighed in, making a bold prediction that Scheffler won’t win any events before the Ryder Cup this season. This did not sit right with a few people.

In a recent episode of the Golf Channel Podcast, Rex Hoggard stated the matter and expressed how he feels that Lefty should stay away from X. He asked Todd Lewis to share his opinion on the matter. To which, he answered, “Yeah, I mean, that’s not a very wise take. Phil is living in some kind of LIV bubble. And usually, I wouldn’t say usually, but there are times when he’s very wise and poignant over his career. He’s actually said some intelligent things, but this is not one of them.”

Mickelson has always been very vocal about things on X. Be it calling out critics like Brandel Chamblee, Alan Shipnuck, or others, or be it praising golfers upon their spectacular wins. Recently, he also declared that Niemann is not just a top-five player, but the best in the world. Mickelson boldly stated, “Top 5? Try #1,” when Torque GC praised him for his recent win in Singapore. Taking to Lefty’s comment on Joaquin Niemann, Lewis shared his insights.

“I think Joaquin Niemann is a talent, there’s no doubt about it, but if you’re going to go out and be half the players on LIV in three rounds, in an event that doesn’t have the intensity of, like, let’s say the Players this past weekend or any of the nine tournaments that Scotty Scheffler won last year worldwide—maybe except Hero, there was only 20 in that one. So, I’ll give you a pass on that one,” he said. Last year, rightfully so, Scottie Scheffler became the Player of the Year.

Scheffler captured seven official PGA Tour titles. He also claimed gold at the Olympic men’s competition in Paris and, to wrap up the year successfully defended his title in the Bahamas. Scheffler earned a whopping $29,228,357 last year, and these are just the tournament compensations. Taking to this, Lewis even added, “This guy had everything and had a phenomenal year. I don’t know where he’s getting this from, but good on you for making us talk about it, Phil.”

Scheffler had a lackluster performance at The PLAYERS Championship but he did extend his streak of top-25 finishes this year with a solid T20 result. Despite posting a score of 4 under par, Scheffler remains optimistic, and confident that he is close to reaching his best form again.

Scottie Scheffler believes he will soon be back with a bang

Scottie Scheffler expressed confidence in his recent performances, noting that he feels very close to hitting his peak form. “It was definitely challenging with the winds and getting the ball close to the hole, but I started hitting better shots and feeling more comfortable with my irons,” he said. His stats have been improving, particularly with his driving.

At the WM Phoenix Open, he ranked 22nd in Strokes Gained off the tee and 51st in driving distance. At The PLAYERS Championship, in a tougher field, he ranked 14th in Strokes Gained off the tee and 13th in driving distance, a noticeable improvement. “The last two weeks, I feel like I’ve definitely driven the ball better,” Scheffler said. “There were definitely some positives from this week. Looking forward to another prep week at home before heading to Houston.”

Despite finishing 4 under par, Scheffler felt he had played better golf and is eager to fine-tune his game before the next tournament. He confirmed that he won’t be competing in the upcoming Valspar Championship, opting to take a break. This time off will give Scheffler a chance to reset and refocus after some uncharacteristic frustrations on the course.

With his game on the rise, Scheffler is focused on making the necessary adjustments and gearing up for Houston. Fans can expect even better performances as he continues to refine his game. Stay tuned for more updates as he prepares for the next challenge!
