After Yankees, Red Sox Dragged Into ‘Torpedo Bat’ Controversy as Fans Rip Alex Cora’s Stunning Admission

Baseball purists, brace yourselves—another cherished tradition is under siege. Just when the Yankees’ “torpedo bats” had the league buzzing, their bitter rivals decided to wade into the controversy. And in classic Red Sox fashion, it wasn’t just about the bats—it was about the words. Because when a manager speaks and fans erupt, you know something truly spectacular has happened.

Alex Cora has spoken again, and this time it is about the New York Yankees and their torpedo bats. While the Yankees managed to bludgeon pitchers for 20 runs, the Red Sox could not do that much damage. Maybe it was the bats that made a difference.

During an interview, Alex Cora revealed a fact that got the whole town talking. Cora said, “Actually, talking to some of the guys, there were some guys in camp who had them.” It looks like it was not only the Yankees who had a bat named after an underwater missile.

While all the fans in the league, especially the Red Sox fans, were calling out the Yankees for using the torpedo bats, they did not expect this news to come through. The Red Sox players were using the same kind of bats, but only in spring training.

Cora said some Red Sox tried the Yankee-style new bats in spring training, by the way:

“Actually, talking to some of the guys, there were some guys in camp who had them.”

And that, according to many, is the key difference—it was just spring training. But when the Yankees were tearing apart the Brewers, this bat caught everyone’s attention. Fans couldn’t help but ask questions as stars like Anthony Volpe, Cody Bellinger, and Paul Goldschmidt were spotted using it during the game.

But now that the Yankees fans have heard the news of Red Sox players using it, they did not waste a second getting a premium membership to criticize Country.

Hypocrisy meets baseball. The same Red Sox faithful who cried foul are now scrambling for a new argument, while Yankees fans bask in the irony. Maybe the real scandal isn’t the bat—it’s who gets caught using it. One thing’s for sure: in this rivalry, the scoreboard isn’t the only thing swinging wildly.

Yankees fans go bonkers over the news of Red Sox players using torpedo bats

Baseball fans love a good scandal—until it boomerangs. Just days ago, Red Sox supporters were leading a moral crusade against a certain bat. Now? The plot has thickened, and Yankees fans are having a field day. Turns out, outrage is a tricky game, especially when the very thing you condemn comes creeping into your own dugout.

Maybe Devers could benefit from those

When the Yankees fans hit back, they hit back very hard. While the Red Sox fans were very busy blaming the Yankees for using torpedo bats, they did not expect their own player to use it. But as soon as the Yankees fans heard, they hit back hard. They did not just name a random player; they named one of the best batters the Red Sox have, Rafael Devers. Devers has had a terrible start to the season, getting 0 hits in 4 games, and the Yankees fans think that this bat might help him do better.

But but but it’s only a bad thing when the Yankees use them

The Yankees have always been prone to criticism, but the one thing they were also good at was ignoring it and outperforming everyone. That is exactly what they are doing now. While the Red Sox fans screamed “cheating”, the Yankees were busy winning. And their fans came out and supported them for this decision. Other players from the Blue Jays and the Brewers have also used the same bat, but it is only visible when the Yankees use it. Doesn’t seem fair now, does it?

They tried them but they still couldn’t make contact

— Random (@xitfirst) March 30, 2025

Well, this might be one of the truest statements out there. Not just because a Yankees fan said it, but there is proof of it. In the first 4 games against the Texas Rangers, the Red Sox managed to win only one game and score a combined 11 runs. That is still 1 less than what the Yankees scored against the Brewers on Sunday. Maybe the problem is not with the bat making contact with the ball.

Hey Boston fans… everyone is using them, not just the Yankees

— TopNJ/NY (@TopnjNY) March 30, 2025

Yes, many players other than the Yankees are using torpedo bats, and nobody has stopped them. Players like Davis Schneider and Rhys Hoskins have also used the same kind of bat. But the Boston fans seem to turn a blind eye towards that. Nobody has stopped the Red Sox fans from using them, so maybe if the Red Sox decide to win, they should also use the torpedo bats.

They only work when the hitter is actually good though

— Dylan (@dylancny) March 30, 2025

This is true, but it is the case with every bat. Your name might be Rafael Devers, but if you do not get a single hit with a normal baseball bat, then maybe the problem is not with the bat but with the batter. Not only Devers but even their newest addition, Alex Bregman, has underperformed massively in the first few games. So, possibly the Red Sox fans need to look at their team not performing rather than pointing at a team that just scored 32 runs in 2 games.

Maybe the Red Sox fans should stop obsessing over Yankees bats and start worrying about Red Sox bats—because right now, they’re missing everything. Outrage won’t put runs on the board, and denial won’t change the scoreboard. If Boston truly wants to compete, it might want to focus less on controversy and more on contact.
