UConn and South Carolina met again in a national championship rematch two years in the making. Back in 2022, Dawn Staley’s Gamecocks made history by becoming the first team to beat Geno Auriemma in a title game. But this time, the tables turned—big time. On Sunday afternoon, the Huskies didn’t just win—they dismantled South Carolina, 82–59, to claim their record 12th national title. It was Paige Bueckers’ moment, and Geno’s redemption.
And as the college basketball world reacted to the beatdown, A’ja Wilson—Las Vegas Aces star and proud South Carolina legend—finally broke her silence. She didn’t sugarcoat it.
Responding to a lighthearted post from her WNBA teammate Kiah Stokes on threads, Wilson wrote: “I know Kiah loves me so I’m not worried UConn big three was eating all tourney congrats to the huskies”
That was it. Raw. Real. And painfully honest.
No denial. No excuses. Just the facts—UConn’s trio of Bueckers, Azzi Fudd, and freshman Sarah Strong were on another level all tournament long, and South Carolina didn’t have an answer.
Wilson followed it up on Threads with even more respect for Bueckers, who poured in 17 points and became the third-highest NCAA Tournament scorer in women’s history with 477 career points.
“Paige’s journey is truly special!” she posted, giving flowers to the Huskies’ leader who had battled back from injury and setbacks. Then came the closerby W “and e’YEA forever loving the cocks over here!! Great season! ”
It was clear—A’ja wasn’t bitter. She was proud. Proud of South Carolina’s run, and proud of the greatness she witnessed on the other side. She’s a competitor, but above all, she’s a truth-teller. And on Sunday, Paige Bueckers and UConn owned the court.
(stay tuned–story is brewing)
