A’ja Wilson Undergoes Style Overhaul Before Aces Face Lynx

Raise your hand if you thought A’ja Wilson wouldn’t still be MVP material without her signature weave. Yeah… put it back down because she might have dropped a look fresher than a Gatorade after OT. You already know it’s good because hair isn’t just an accessory for A’ja Wilson, it’s a whole identity, and sometimes, it’s cultural empowerment. Let’s rewind to when she opened up about the challenges she faced growing up. “This is for all the girls with an apostrophe in their name. This is for all the girls who are ‘too loud’ and ‘too emotional,’ This is for all the girls who are constantly asked, ‘Oh, what did you do with your hair? That’s new.’ This is for my Black girls.”

And ever since, Wilson’s hair has been more than a style. From playful curls and slicked-back braids to neon shades, she has used her crown to tell stories, challenge norms, and oh yeah: launch a whole shoe line. Also, when the Aces decided to ditch the red and throw it back to their silver-and-black roots, you already know A’ja went full commitment. “I said, why not do platinum silver hair? That’s what it’s all about, rebranding,” she told Fox News.

“We’re here now with silver hair. I don’t know how long she will stay, but I know I’m just having a little fun with it.” Spoiler alert: she didn’t stay long. Because A’ja Wilson gave the fans something to really remember. She showed up with shiny bubblegum pink locks that matched her new Nike A’One kicks. On May 8, she posted a quick Instagram Story. It was pink hair, pink shadow, pink jersey, pink power. “I’m so glad that people are loving on the pink, because pink is my favorite color. So it’s a beautiful thing to see just a lot of people coming together from different parts of life, rocking my shoe.” Although this time, she might have chosen the classic.

Yep, the classic is back, and this time, it’s wavier than ever. A’ja Wilson just hard-launched her fresh new look in a crisp white hoodie, letting the hair do all the talking. And talk it did. Glossy waves, effortless glam. Also, if there’s one thing Wilson never fumbles, it’s the hair-game-to-mood-board ratio. You already know she doesn’t just style for the ‘Gram. So what’s next? Glad you asked. Her birthday’s just around the corner, but before the candles and cake, she’s suiting up against Napheesa Collier and the Minnesota Lynx in what might be the game of the week.

The league’s top two offensive leaders (Collier at 23.8 PPG and Wilson at 22.1) and top MVP contenders will be facing off on the hardwood. And if recent history has taught us anything, it’s that A’ja Wilson doesn’t just show up…

A’ja Wilson Showed Out vs the Sparks

On Tuesday night in LA, A’ja Wilson put on an absolute clinic. She powered the Las Vegas Aces to a dominant 89–74 victory over the Sparks. A’ja Wilson went off for 34 points on a ridiculous 16-of-23 shooting. She also snatched 10 rebounds, and filled up the box score with 4 assists, 3 steals, and 3 blocks. And get this: she did most of her damage early, by dropping 17 points in the first quarter alone while going a perfect 8-for-8.

She didn’t miss a single shot until midway through the second, hitting her first 10 attempts. By halftime, A’ja Wilson had already blown past her season average with 23 points. This marked her fifth 30-point game of the year (second against the Sparks). But she wasn’t the only one balling out. Jackie Young recorded her first career triple-double with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists, while Dana Evans chipped in 10 off the bench.

The Aces secured their fifth win in seven games. They took full advantage of LA’s 20 turnovers and converted them into 19 points. And if you somehow still doubt Wilson’s impact, just look at the team stats. She is topping four of five major categories: points (22.1), rebounds (9.1), steals (1.7), and blocks (2.4). Name another MVP front-runner who’s doing all that while serving looks and destruction on the court. Yeah, we’ll wait.
