Alabama’s Ryan Williams Hints at His Next Big Move After Eye-Opening 40-Yard Dash Challenge

Alabama’s recruiting class continues to shine, ranking among the nation’s best. And the biggest headline? Ryan Williams’ bold decision to reclassify to the 2024 class. Well, his move is a game-changer, adding another elite talent to a roster already valued at over $100 million. Right now, it’s more than just stacking stars—it’s a blueprint for sustained dominance. And Williams is dropping hints about his next big move.

At just 17 years old, Ryan Williams took CFB by storm in 2024. Yes, he racked up 48 catches, and 865 yards—all before even turning 18 in February. And his game-winning touchdown against Georgia? One of the season’s most electrifying moments. But despite the praise, Williams isn’t satisfied. “People are going to say it was solid, good. I think I could have done a lot better,” said the standout WR. So, for him, greatness isn’t about what he’s done—it’s about what’s next.

On March 22, Touchdown Alabama Magazine (TDA) dropped a thrilling update on Ryan Williams’ next move. One major focus for 2025? Bulking up. Yes, Williams is set on adding muscle this offseason—helping him break tackles and level up as a blocker. So his mindset is simply giving back to his teammates. “Definitely, you know, I’m getting a little bigger, if y’all (reporters) can tell, just a little bit. So, just trying to impact blocking. Because my guys blocked for me, so just trying to return that favor down the field blocking,” said Williams. While it is a bigger and stronger thinking to become better, his next chapter is just beginning.

Here, leadership is also on his checklist. And under OC Ryan Grubb, Williams’ role is set to expand. Grubb plans to use him both inside and outside, showcasing his elite versatility. So, it’s a stronger, smarter, more dynamic move for Williams, and bad news for defenders in 2025. But for Williams, versatility is everything, he thrives on doing it all—lining up inside, outside, and making plays everywhere on the field. “It’s just fun to be able to do everything on the football field. So the fact that he’s allowing me to (be) inside, outside, just opens up my variety to what I can do in the game. It’s very fun,” remarked Williams.

As of now, with more freedom in Alabama’s system, his impact in 2025 could be bigger than ever. Although Williams is focused on adding muscle, but not at the cost of his explosiveness. “Here at Alabama, I feel like our strength and conditioning does an amazing job of helping me — I get to eat a lot of the things I was already eating, so it doesn’t make it feel like I’m just trying to put weight on. It’s actually enjoyable. And then balancing that with the weight room. It makes it to where I can continue to be explosive,” explained the standout receiver.

Let’s be real; with the right mix of strength and speed, he’s shaping up to be even more dangerous in 2025. But Williams, listed at 175 pounds, isn’t chasing a set weight—he’ll know when he gets there. However, one thing’s certain—he’s already making bold claims about his 40-yard dash time.

Ryan Williams is raising the bar

Former Alabama QB Jalen Milroe stole the show at Pro Day with a blazing 4.37 in the 40-yard dash. But the real buzz? Ryan Williams’ reaction. Yes, when asked if he could top Milroe’s time, Williams didn’t hesitate and he said, “I will definitely beat 4.37. We already talked about it—me and [Milroe]. He has a sneak peek on what he thinks I’m going to run.” So, while the confidence is high, the challenge is on.

However, Williams didn’t hold back when talking about Milroe’s speed. “My guy went 4.37. Jalen Milroe is the best athlete in the country. But, he know and I know I’m faster than him. So when it is my time …” To be honest, Williams’ confidence is undeniable, and his drive to succeed is fueling his mission to elevate the Crimson Tide. Yet, beyond the friendly competition, there’s mutual respect. And why not? Williams and Milroe may be rivals in the 40-yard dash, but they’re teammates in the pursuit of greatness.

Given that, after his standout Pro Day, Milroe shared his excitement about Williams’ growth. “The more you play football, the more you are around the University of Alabama, you are going to build and get better,” said Milroe. As of now, he’s seen firsthand what Williams is capable of—and he knows the best is yet to come.
