Alex Ovechkin’s Capitals Roster Mistake Has Washington Fans in Splits

Alex Ovechkin is on cloud 9 at the moment. While still soaking in the achievement of surpassing Wayne Gretzky’s historic tally of 894 NHL goals, he is also the key to the Capitals’ success this season. They are at the top of the Metropolitan Division, with Ovechkin having already recorded 43 goals. He has every reason to smile and had a light-hearted moment after making a hilarious blunder. As a result, fans couldn’t stop laughing after seeing the clip go viral.

Yesterday, Ovechkin appeared on The Pat McAfee Show and introduced his teammates while on the plane. However, when he came across Clay Stevenson, the recently recalled AHL goalie for the Capitals, Ovechkin appeared to forget who he was. The video went viral on social media, and the entire NHL community couldn’t believe what they had seen.

Clay Stevenson played for the Hershey Bears in the AHL while being under contract with the Capitals. Earlier this week, the Capitals recalled him while sending Hunter Shepard back to Hershey. This was a crucial move by the Capitals in anticipation of the upcoming Stanley Cup Playoffs. However, when Alex Ovechkin failed to identify Stevenson, fans responded with hilarious reactions on social media.

Alex Ovechkin makes a hilarious blunder

On the Pat McAfee Show, Ovechkin was introducing his teammates while being inside the plane. While he gave some interesting names like “Little Kid Leno” and “Zini” to his teammates, he called Stevenson “another guy,” seemingly forgetting his name—something that made the NHL world burst into laughter. A fan wrote, “The funniest part of this is that Ovi has headphones in, so everyone is completely clueless about what’s going on or what Pat is commenting as they are intro’d.” Rightly so, Stevenson didn’t realize that Ovechkin failed to identify him during the introduction.

Meanwhile, another Twitter user couldn’t stop laughing after watching the clip of Alex Ovechkin’s blunder. “I’ve watched this like five times and I laugh every time,” the fan said, as he was shocked to see Ovechkin failing to identify his teammate. Similarly, another Capitals fan was in awe of Ovechkin’s innocence despite not recognizing his teammate. The fan wrote, “It’s so good. It will not get worse with more viewings,” as the clip went viral on social media and received several reactions from fans.

Further, another fan highlighted what was the most interesting part about Alex Ovechkin’s honest mistake. “The crazy part was.. This couldn’t been a canceled moment for the uptight folks.. Ovi could’ve slipped up locker room banter,” the fan said, as he couldn’t stop gushing over the hilarious moment. Lastly, one of the fans felt that it was the funniest clip that he had ever come across, saying, “That’s so true. They’re all like “what are they saying” and he’s relaying it.” The players had no idea Ovechkin was introducing them on the show, as he was wearing headphones.

The Capitals next face the Islanders, with a playoff spot already booked. They would look to overcome their recent dip in form after losing two consecutive games and come back strong ahead of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
