Finally, after signing the blockbuster deal with MVP, Alycia Baumgardner got her first fight. The undisputed super featherweight champion will co-main event the first-ever all-women’s PPV on July 11, with Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano having their trilogy fight in the main event. With all the recent signings MVP has made, we will get the whole card soon.
When The Bomb joined MVP, fans had big expectations. Some even speculated she’d replace Serrano as the promotion’s top star, shaking up the pecking order. The Real Deal quickly shut down the rumors. Furthermore, with Baumgardner’s fight announcement, Serrano has a heartfelt message for her newest crewmate, settling the bad-blood debate for good.
Amanda Serrano ready to make history
As soon as MVP announced The Bomb’s fight, Amanda Serrano uploaded a post on her story congratulating her. She wrote, “We ain’t playing July 11th! Don’t Miss @alyciabaumgardner’s MVP debut!! Let’s Gooooo! ,” promising a good time to the fans.
In another story, she gave props to Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian for their work in women’s boxing. She wrote, “I’m super blessed. I asked my team @nakisabidarian for an Amazing undercard July 11th and as Always he delivered.” The Puerto Rican star then elevated her co-main eventer praising them and wrote, “Look at this fight!” expecting a sensational fight. She added, “The bomb @alyciabaumgardner does battle against the Hungry undefeated @jennifer_miranda_box. I’m so Excited about July 11! You should too. Don’t Miss It!!”
With only two fights set, the July 11 PPV already looks loaded. Furthermore, MVP has made some recent exciting signings including the likes of unified bantamweight champion Dina Thorslund and 2023 Time Woman Of The Year Ramla Ali, who will be on the card for sure. If MVP manages it well, this historic PPV can be an all-timer.
Still, the spotlight stays on the main event: Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano. It’s their third clash, and Serrano’s desperate to finally beat Taylor after two failed attempts. With this being her final shot, Claressa Shields, the most decorated female boxer, has offered to help—but there’s a catch.
Claressa Shields reveals Serrano’s biggest mistake
In a recent interview with FightHype TV, Shields was caught off-guard when the interviewer asked, “What does Amanda Serrano have to do to get an actual victory against Katie Taylor?” With a confused look on her face, The GWOAT replied, “Why’d you ask me that?” However, she is willing to offer Amanda Serrano some advice, if she calls her first. “If she asked me I would gladly,” Shields claimed.
The Flint native agreed that a fight against Katie Taylor, who has been fighting for almost three decades now, can’t be easy. “She’s(Katie) strong, she’s durable. You know what you can hurt her with and you know what you can’t hurt her with,” she explained. However, she feels like the unified featherweight could have defeated Taylor if she was not relying solely on her wild 1-2’s. “I feel like Amanda just feels she can just come forward just with those strong punches and just beat everybody. When I think last fight she lost on counters. It wasn’t that she lost in combat, she lost to counters. She’s throwing two punches and then she gets hit with four. So I think that she needs to maybe ask counter to her game,” she posited.
So, if Amanda Serrano wants the help, she just needs to give a call to Claressa Shields. Even if she doesn’t, T-Rex would be at the MSG, New York, to support her and the historic night of women’s boxing.
