The Major League Baseball – something that thrives on storylines. Just when you wrap your head around all the twists and rivalries, a new subplot tops the headlines. Just recently, the talk of the town was all about how the Bronx Bombers would be coping without Soto’s explosive bat in the mix. But now, the rumor mill has reversed. The word out there is it’s not the New York Yankees missing Soto, but perhaps Soto regretting his exit from the Bronx.
To be precise, it came to light that Soto is possibly missing the comfort of batting ahead of Aaron Judge.
So, while the chatter around Soto’s post-Yankees span has been louder than ever, a touching gesture has utterly surprised him. It ultimately brought him a bit closer to his new team, the New York Mets. After signing the biggest contract in MLB history over this off-season, Juan Soto was given a standing ovation from the Mets nation at Citi Field. Probably a sincere attempt from the fans to help him lift himself from the slump.
Soto was visibly moved when the Metsies rose to their feet and applauded him. It was during the second game against the St. Louis Cardinals. Soto’s biggest hit came during the eighth inning when he delivered a two-run double off reliever Ryan Fernandez. It contributed majorly to helping the New York Mets secure a 7-4 win.
Postgame, he admitted, “I really appreciate what they did. I feel like they don’t know how meaningful that is.” He continued, “It means a lot to the players when they do that. It’s really special.” He was full of gratitude and acknowledged how beautiful this feeling is. Soto further emphasized that it’s a great feeling when the fan base supports you through thick and thin, boosting their morale and confidence!
Soto has been going all in since the start of this season, and it’s finally paying off. His biggest priority at this stretch of the season is “team success.” Probably, more than his personal records or home runs. And as of now, the Mets are all set to face the Philadelphia Phillies for a 4-game series.
Next up: New York Mets and Soto set to face the Phillies
The New York Mets are fueled by the recent series win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Now, they are primed for their first showdown against the Philadelphia Phillies for this season.
The three-game series is set to begin on 21st April at Citi Field as the Mets welcome the Phillies and Bryce Harper. You know what’s going to be wildly intense about this series? It’ll be the first clash between these NL East rivals since the Mets expelled the Phillies from the playoffs last October. The Phillies would definitely want to make a statement this time.
Not to mention, Juan Soto is about to get the first taste of the intense Mets-Phillies rivalry after he signed the massive contract in December. It’s fair to mention that all eyes will be on him as he will enter the most heated matchup.
The Phillies are 13-9 as they are coming off a painful 7-5, 10-inning loss to the Miami Marlins. Meanwhile, the Mets currently stand at 15-7 overall and 9-1 at Citi Field. During the last series against the Cardinals, the Mets had a stadium-packed crowd of 38,000. So, the heat is on!
It was acknowledged by Mets’ Francisco Lindor, “I appreciate the fans coming out and giving us love and supporting us.” So let’s just say the Mets-Phillies series is going to be pumped even beyond our imagination.
