Angelo Ferrari Credits IOWA Hawkeye Teammate for Major Upset Over No. 3 Dustin Plott

Angelo Ferrari is not just A.J. Ferrari‘s brother. He is also a three-time State Champion and a three-time Ironman Champion. And in his latest bout on the wrestling mat, he pulled off a major upset by beating OSU’s All-American Dustin Plott

His win over Dustin Plott helped the third-ranked Hawkeyes to a 21-16 win over the 2nd ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys. But when reporters asked him about the unexpected victory, he shocked everyone with his heartfelt gesture. While talking to reporters Angelo Ferrari has given a shout to his teammate when asked about the preparation he did to topple down the Cowboys wrestler. “Honestly, every day I’m in those situations with Stephen Buchanan. Every day I’m in that situation where he might ride me. But then I’ve got to push through.” Ferrari said.

“If I’m taking down Stephen Buchanan, there’s no way I can’t take down that guy.”

But one of the important parts of Angelo’s answer was, “If I’m taking down Stephen Buchanan, there’s no way I can’t take down that guy [Dustin Plott].” And the fresher further added, “The confidence is that and the best partners in the country, man. I just, can’t be there without them. And without, you know, I’m just blessed for everything. God’s blessed me with these partners and these teammates.” Buchanan also featured in the dual, winning 10-1 against No. 6 Luke Surber to seal the deal for the Hawkeyes.

But wait, what exactly went down in that game? How did Angelo Ferrari pull off the upset to help his school maintain it’s undefeated streak against the Cowboys? Was it a dominant performance or a nail-biting finish? If you’re dying to know all the details about this intense matchup, buckle up—because we’re about to dive right in!

Angelo Ferrari’s exceptional play in toppling OSU’s Dustin Plott

Wrestling saw a phenomenon in the making when Angelo Ferrari crushed Plott at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City on Sunday night. Ferrari’s second-period takedown got the crowd on its feet and gave him a 3-2 lead going into the third with riding time on his side. But the riding time advantage quickly changed hands and Plott managed to take it to sudden victory. Much like what he had done in the third period, Ferrari went for Plott’s ankle, and in a matter of moments had Plott on his side, struggling to get out of the hold. Takedown executed.

While explaining the victory over No.3 of OSU’s players, he did not forget what added fuel to his success in Sunday’s matchup. “I think that loss to Carter Starocci was probably the best thing for me. I think it lit a fire in me and really pushed me further than I thought I could go.” Angelo Ferrari added when he was asked about the win. He had suffered a 3-1 loss against Penn State’s Carter Starocci after Brands chose him over usual starter Gabe Arnold.

Talking about the takedown Angelo Ferrari said, “I got the takedown out of there. I think I awarded [the takedown] before the ref. But that’s to show that I got three points.” The entire arena went bonkers after he showed three fingers to indicate the points he had scored. Now, let’s see how the Iowa freshman moves forward now that he has established a name for himself.
