It’s not every day that a young backstop from Anaheim barges into a conversation reserved for baseball royalty—but here we are. While some teams are still trying to remember where they left their offense after spring training, the Los Angeles Angels are busy making history. And in the middle of it all? A 25-year-old rewriting franchise lore and casually brushing shoulders with legends who wore pinstripes before he was born.
Yogi Berra is one of the best players the MLB has seen, and maybe no other players can be the ‘next Yogi Berra,’ but it looks like Logan O’Hoppe took this as a challenge. While O’Hoppe has just started his baseball career, his bat is already rewriting history.
After O’Hoppe hit a homer in his fourth consecutive game, he set a franchise record as the first catcher to do so. But there was one more record he tied that caught the eye of Angels broadcaster Trent Rush. He said, “So Logan O’Hoppe is the youngest AL catcher to homer in 4 straight since YOGI BERRA!”
So Logan O’Hoppe is the youngest AL catcher to homer in 4 straight since YOGI BERRA!
For a guy that grew up in NY, can you imagine what it must be like for Logan to even have his name in same sentence as Yogi Berra?!
Btw, we all know how great Yogi was & hes still underrated.

O’Hoppe tied the record after hitting a homer against the Guardians on April 6. This homer not only tied the record but also tied the game for the Angels, who went on to win both the game and the series. His form has been high for all seven games he has played, with a batting average of .345. He leads the Angels’ batting lineup in home runs with five and has nine RBIs.
So, while the ink’s still drying on O’Hoppe’s rookie pages, he’s already scribbling his name next to legends. It’s not just a hot streak—it’s a history lesson with a power swing. If this is how he handles April, pitchers might want to schedule their vacations by May. Anaheim may have found its voice behind the plate—and it’s speaking fluent legend.
Angels’ on fire as they ease past the Guardians and win the series
There’s something brewing in Anaheim—and for once, it’s not a disappointment. A team long associated with squandered talent and early exits has suddenly found rhythm, swagger, and the audacity to look like contenders. With the kind of momentum that turns skeptics into spectators, the Angels didn’t just show up this weekend—they took over. And if anyone’s feeling the heat, it’s not just the opposing pitchers.
It’s unlikely that anybody expected the Angels to have such a start to the MLB season, but here we are. The Angels are on fire as they beat the Guardians 6-2 in the final game of the series and take the series win. This is not the only thing that is on fire, the offense is absolutely killing it right now. In the nine games the Angels have played, they have scored a total of 46 runs with 13 home runs.
Their batting average is also a solid .234 and has an OPS of .714. If that is the batting their pitching has also been able to support them and has done a decent job. The Angels have a high ERA of 4.50 and have been hit for 16 home runs, but have been able to keep the damage to a minimum.

After the game, when talking to O’Hoppe, he said, “If one part or one aspect in this room slips, then the other will pick them up… There’s no panic when we’re down… We know that we can execute the job at hand, and we’ll keep doing that.”
So, while the Angels’ ERA might be auditioning for a horror flick, bats are busy writing a redemption arc. The balance isn’t perfect, but it’s working—and that’s more than you could say for most of last season. If this is what early April looks like in Anaheim, the rest of the AL better start paying attention. These Angels aren’t just flapping around—they’re aiming to fly.
