Arrested in Miami, Fred Kerley Sends a Message to Michael Johnson’s Grand Slam Track

On May 2, Fred Kerley was arrested for the second time this year in Florida, following an altercation at the meet hotel, 2 days ahead of Grand Slam Track Miami. However, after that, the League authority came with a statement, informing the fans about the news and announcing Fred’s unavailability at the event. Notably, on Day 3, Fred was scheduled to compete in the men’s short sprint event group. However, the League authority announced Brandon Hicklin’s name as Fred Kerley’s replacement. But what was Fred’s reply to all these things? How did he take all of these?

On May 4, before the men’s short sprint events, Fred Kerley’s official statement came to the public. In the long note, the Olympian wrote, “While there was a physical altercation, my arrest was not due to any criminal act. Rather, it resulted from my decision to exercise remain silent until legal counsel was present. I chose not to speak to law enforcement without my attorney, and for that reason alone, I was booked.” He also wrote, “ I also extend my apologies to Grand Slam Track for bringing the wrong kind of attention to the event, and to those who believe in me and had to see the headlines.”
