As LIV Golfers Struggled, Eugenio Chacarra Reveals How He Survived Unscathed In Just 4 Words

The International Series in India has taken over the golf world, and fans cannot get enough of it, and well, that’s what we’re here for. After the first round, the leaderboard is shaping up to be a thrilling contest, with Eugenio Chacarra and Kazuki Higa tied for the top spot at 4-under-par. Aaron Wilkin is hot on their heels, just one stroke behind at 3-under-par. With the competition heating up, the question on everyone’s mind is: how did Chacarra climb his way to the top of the leaderboard?

In an exclusive interview with Essentially Sports’ Aravind Menon, Eugenio Chacarra opened up about his impressive performance on a notoriously tough course. When asked about his strategy for tackling the challenging 17th hole, Chacarra revealed that he didn’t have a specific plan in mind, but rather relied on his instincts and a dash of good fortune. “I got lucky enough”, the golfer said. “That I did a good number and stuck with the wedge, and I had a good start,” he explained. He also shared his thoughts on the course, describing it as “very, very hard” with “every hole” presenting a significant challenge. Specifically, he noted that the 17th hole is “like the hole of the course here and it’s very hard, of course.”

Chacarra’s humility and willingness to acknowledge the role of luck in his success are refreshing, especially considering the high stakes and intense pressure of professional golf. Despite the course’s formidable reputation, Chacarra expressed his enthusiasm for the challenge, saying “I like how it sets up for my game… just kinda like keep playing golf if you’re having fun.” His carefree attitude and focus on enjoying the game are a testament to his mental toughness and ability to thrive under pressure.

But why did Chacarra keep emphasizing that the course was hard? Well, because it is!

The DLF Golf and Country Club is harder than you think

Eugenio Chacarra, one of the top contenders at the International Series India, faced a daunting task at the DLF Golf and Country Club. The course, designed by the legendary Arnold Palmer and Gary Player, proved to be a challenging test of skill and strategy. As Aakash Ohri, the executive director of DLF Homes & Chairman of DLF Golf Resorts, noted, “Greens are large and undulating, giving players a lot to think about while putting.” This unique feature, combined with the course’s elevation changes and strategically designed holes, made it a true challenge for Chacarra and his fellow competitors.

The course’s bunkers also proved to be a notable obstacle, with Ohri explaining, “Their [the bunkers] geo-rivetted faces are not only aesthetically pleasing but also serve a purpose. The bunkers can be made deeper with this design.” This clever design element added an extra layer of complexity to the course, requiring players to think carefully about their approach shots. Furthermore, the course’s elevation changes and undulating greens demanded a high level of accuracy and control from the players. With its unique features and challenging layout, it’s no wonder that Chacarra and his fellow competitors found the DLF Golf and Country Club to be a tough nut to crack.
