Drama at Daytona International Speedway! After a long delay due to rain, the Cup Series action is finally underway at the ‘World Center of Racing’. Even though the first stage ended without much controversy, the same can’t be said about a ‘big one’ that occurred just seconds after drivers took the green flag to begin Stage 2. Reigning champ Joey Logano resumed his dominance at NASCAR’s highest level in the opening 65 laps, but his No. 22 Ford was the reason for the multi-car wreck on Lap 71.
The Team Penske racer failed to take off during the restart while at the front of the pack, causing somewhat of a domino effect until the end of the grid. The incident resulted in a multi-car wreck, including the likes of Justin Allgaier, Helio Castroneves, Chase Briscoe, Jimmie Johnson, Riley Herbst, Ross Chastain, John-Hunter Nemechek, Martin Truex Jr., Cole Custer, Cody Ware, and Kyle Busch. Rowdy was hoping to do a Dale Earnhardt Jr. at ‘The Great American Race’, hoping to win the crown-jewel event for the first time in 20 years, while driving a Richard Childress Racing car.

After going winless last season and breaking a longstanding streak, expectations were high from Kyle Busch. The Nevada native has had a busy off-season and was hoping to hit the ground running when the Cup Series resumes at the 2.5-mile tri-oval. However, the Lap 71 incident might prove to be a dampener on his plans, especially if the No. 8 Chevy driver is forced to make repairs early in the very first race of the year.
