Training camp began on July 23 for the Bills, and through the initial week, injuries have grabbed attention. Several players have been missing time on the field in Pittsford, New York. The latest on the list is their cornerback Maxwell Hairston. The rookie is said to be undergoing tests to understand the severity of his right leg injury in Tuesday’s practice.
Currently, it is not known how Hairston got hurt. It was a non-contact knee injury, and he was seen walking off the field with the training staff after he was down on the ground for several minutes. Though the player was able to make his way to a medical tent, he did not return to the field. However, after practice, cornerbacks Taron Johnson and Dane Jackson spoke about Hairston’s injury. “I’ve seen guys be down for long periods of time and actually be OK, so I’m hoping that’s something like that,” Johnson said with optimism.
“We said a prayer for him, we uplift him, we hope to see him after we get in here and find out everything that’s going on with him and a speedy recovery for him too,” Jackson shared. But apart from Hairston, there are several other Buffalo Bills players injured, like WRs Curtis Samuel and Tyrell Shavers. Here is a detailed list:
Elijah Moore: He was out on Sunday and Monday due to lower leg soreness. But it seems to be more of a maintenance factor than an injury. So far, he isn’t officially a part of the Bills’ official injury list. Reports suggest he will be back by Thursday or Friday.
Dawson Knox: The TE was down with a hamstring injury but was activated off the PUP list on Sunday. However, he is yet to return to practice. As per reporter Sal Maiorana, he isn’t showing much of a limp, but the team will proceed cautiously. “It’s still too early,” HC Sean McDermott said on Monday. [Injury status: Questionable for Week 1 vs. Baltimore]
Tyler Bass: Even their kicker—the lone specialist on the roster—is not healthy. He is dealing with a pelvic injury and missed some kicks on Sunday. [Injury status: Questionable for Week 1 vs. Baltimore]
Kaden Prather: The Wide Receiver is also dealing with a hamstring issue and did not participate in Monday’s practice. As he is aiming for a spot on the Bills’ 53-man roster, he will continue to do limited sideline work while allowing his injury to heal. [Questionable for Week 1 vs. Baltimore]
Curtis Samuel: Hamstring injuries have been the highlight as Samuel is also dealing with them. The WR was also hurt during last year’s training back and missed a lot of time. That resulted in him never really finding his rhythm. [Questionable for Week 1 vs. Baltimore]
Spencer Brown: The OT is dealing with a lingering back issue. “I think, really, it’s just a little bit of a flare-up right now,” HC McDermott stated last week. “So just getting in the right spot so we can calm down and he can push forward here.” [Injury status: Physically Unable to Perform. Expected Return – Week 2]
Tyrell Shavers: The receiver is dealing with a right ankle injury, and days ago, he was carted off the field at training camp. He was down on the ground for several minutes after the final play of their practice session. [Injury status: Questionable for Week 1 vs. Baltimore]
Terrel Bernard: Another notable player from the roster, Terrell Bernard, is also facing hamstring problems. As a result, he did not practice on Sunday. [Injury status: Questionable for Week 1 vs. Baltimore]
Sedrick Van Pran-Granger: The center is nursing a calf issue. That’s a tough situation for someone who is in their second season and hoping to earn a backup spot. [Injury status: Physically Unable to Perform. Expected Return – Week 2]
Dorian Williams: The LB too is dealing with a calf issue. He sustained a hit on his calf during a drill on Thursday and sat out Friday’s practice as a precaution. It’s still up in the air how serious the injury is. Williams, after all, has never missed a game since he joined the league in 2023. [Injury status: Questionable for Week 1 vs. Baltimore]
Alec Anderson: As per reports, he has been experiencing a sore knee since Monday. He and edge rusher Hayden Harris got into the first scrap of camp, but while that was going on, Harris’ helmet got ripped off. Once that was done, Anderson went away to the locker room but did not return.
HC McDermott understands it is not an ideal situation but remains optimistic. “So, you’re trying to move the team forward and develop, but it also allows an opportunity for us to see somebody step in and do the job. So, that’s just the nature of having the injuries that we do.”
While the team is working to get players back, the early weeks of camp have made one thing clear: keeping this roster healthy must be a top priority as they prepare for the 2025 season.
