Bills Prospect Issues Strong ‘Suffocation’ Warning to Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts & NFL Offenses

If there’s one thing Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts do better than anyone, it’s making defenses look straight-up clueless. You send the perfect blitz, and Mahomes is out here throwing a sidearm dime while basically falling over. Hurts? He just shrugs off defenders like they’re minor inconveniences and still finds a way to make magic happen. As for the defense, they just try, they fail, and the cycle repeats.

But let’s be real—that’s kinda unfair to the defense, isn’t it? Mahomes and Hurts are elite, no doubt, but at some point, the defenders need to bring their A-game if they want to shut them down. With the NFL draft just around the corner, young guys entering the league just need to bring some Micah Parsons-level chaos in the next season. And one name’s already making noise. Billy Bowman Jr.

The 22-year-old safety for the Oklahoma Sooners just had a notable performance at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine. And his goal in his rookie season? It’s to suffocate the offenses. “I want to suffocate offenses. Offense is easy to play. You know your play. You know where the ball is going. All you got to do is get the ball, make somebody miss,” Bowman said during the combine week.

Didn’t get a chance to post last week, but #Oklahoma safety Billy Bowman gave me my favorite quote during combine week:

Translation? Well, the guy literally said that the offense is kinda predictable. However, Bowman thinks that defense is the real challenge and fun. “Defense, it brings so much more of a challenge,” he continued. “So it’s so much more fun. But my goal is just to suffocate offenses. I don’t want to give them nothing. I want to hold them to zero to 3. When the ball is in the air, it’s mine. If they hand the ball off, I want to rally to the ball as quick as possible. My mentality is suffocation.”

Well, Bowman isn’t just talking the talk—he’s got the game to back it up. Take his collegiate career at Oklahoma, for instance. The guy was everywhere on the field. Bowman played 47 games, racked up 199 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 11 interceptions, and 14 pass deflections. In simple terms, if the ball was in play, there was a pretty solid chance that the 22-year-old safety was getting a piece of it.

Speaking of that “Suffocating offenses” mindset? Yeah, the guy was living it. Then came the NFL Scouting Combine 2025 where he made the scouts felt his presence. The result? He’s one of the top prospects for the Buffalo Bills.

Billy Bowman Jr. on the Bills’ radar?

The Bills are heading into the 2025 season with a mix of highs to celebrate and some tough pills to swallow. On one side, Josh Allen just had the best season of his career. Cherry on the cake? The guy clinched his maiden MVP in the last season. On the other side, their AFC Championship loss to the Chiefs (once again) will sting them moving forward. That said, the team needs to build a stronger roster in 2025 and looks like they’re onto it.

The Bills have some of the top prospects under their radar. Whether it’s tight ends or defensive backs. That said, the Bills are in dire need of bolstering their safety positions for the 2025 season. With Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde no longer with the team, Billy Bowman Jr. could be a good option for the team.

You see, despite being overlooked throughout the draft process, Bowman showed his potential. He ran a 4.42 40-yard dash, put up a 10’3″ broad jump and pumped out 17 reps at 225 pounds on the bench. However, his size is a major concern for the team as the guy is standing tall at 5’9” and weighs just 192 pounds.

According to Chad Reuter of the NFL.com, “He (Bowman) looked like a bulked-up corner moving around cones and in transition drills. Bowman fluidly caught the ball, adjusting to a throw behind him and perfectly executing the gauntlet drill. He gave himself a leg up in the safety competition with his effort.”

All in all, the Bills are expected to go for a Safety in the 2025 NFL draft. With rumors circulating around Bowman, it’s likely the team will take a chance on him.
